Mobile DPF Cleaning around Hill Corner and Somerset
Cleaning the DPF is done at the motor, not at a workshop. No workshop, no filter leaving. An engineer drives out to your door in Hill Corner, clears the diesel particulate filter as it sits, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.
Allow for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, agreed over the phone before anyone travels.
Most owners find us with the light on already, and the vehicle low on power. That is the situation this page is written for.
The DPF light is on. What then?
Not the unit, automatically. First thing to get straight. Plenty of faults put the identical light on the very same panel, which is why a visit starts with a diagnostic rather than with treatment.
The use you manage in the meantime tells. That is the next thing.
- Amber light, motor still driving fine — a long constant run can still sort it on its own. Costs zero, and worth trying before you ring anything.
- Car already gone into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not reach it now.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under the throttle — stop planning long drives and get it looked at.
Signs the car has been showing you
Last news, the light. The symptoms tend to grow for weeks before it appears:
- falling off on power, especially uphill
- you find the revs never reach where they always went
- the fuel use is down
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
None of that is proof on its own. The light beside them indicates a blocked filter.
Why diesel particulate filters block round Hill Corner
The motoring that goes with a small village like Hill Corner is the least kind kind for a DPF. Look at a normal week: Berkley Church of England First School and home again, Styles Hill at a halt before half nine, a five-minute run to Asda, a run to Frome. Not much there runs long enough or is hot enough to complete a regeneration. The soot that should burn away builds up instead.
Neither is distant from Hill Corner: under 25 miles to the M4, under 15 miles to Bath. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the drive that would clear a filter simply never happens.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode amounts to. Power is capped, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter needs can never run — which is the entire difficulty, because a proper drive works by triggering that regeneration.
Getting it up the motorway is the common advice, and it holds up to a point. Beyond that line — limp mode — road work will not be enough, and the filter requires cleaning.
DPF cleaning at the motor across Hill Corner
The filter does not come off. That is the part most owners do not expect: the job takes place with the DPF yet fitted to the motor, on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the motor can sit for a while.
Nothing is touched until other faults are eliminated. That requires a diagnostic first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by weight, and a look over of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and connected components.
Then the treatment. A solution is fed in through the entry point on that vehicle and expands inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. A second pass is sometimes called for on heavily clogged filters.
A regeneration is next, driving off what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Hill Corner if you are there, or a static regeneration where the car sits, with the running data checked after.
Both sets of figures come through by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second check is what confirms the change, clears the light and notes whatever is still showing.
When a DPF clean is not the fix
Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does nothing for:
- a pressure sensor reporting a blockage that is not there
- a stuck-open EGR valve
- the AdBlue system playing up
- a regeneration that never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- the turbo pushing oil into the filter
The first check is there for exactly that. You are told before the work begins, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is exchanged: the filter you already own is cleaned where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it hollowed out a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth noting.
What DPF cleaning comes to around Hill Corner
Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
Not one flat rate would be truthful, so the number is agreed over the phone once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. What you run and where you are both shift it: Hill Corner itself, across at Berkley, or otherwise out in the BA postcode area.
You are not charged for treatment that the check says will not help. What still stands is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the diagnostic was done and the advice was offered.
The job comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Hill Corner if the light comes back inside that time.

The vehicles we clean and the patch we cover near Hill Corner
Private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery, agricultural vehicles — the one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.
Hill Corner is seldom a special trip: technicians are working Styles Hill week in week out, and the same run takes in Berkley, Berkley Marsh and the spots out past Oldford. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so even further out through Somerset is still worth a phone call, and what settles between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

Things Hill Corner drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run shift it?
- Sometimes, if you catch it early enough and the motor has not dropped into limp mode. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it wants — not five minutes flat to Asda and back.
- The visit lasts how long?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — severely blocked filters sometimes need a second pass, which extends it.
- How much does it come to across Hill Corner?
- Beginning from £299, with a charge for coming out that pays for the scan and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why pricing goes by phone.
- Is it necessary for me to be present?
- Space for the motor to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. Wanting to be there is fine: the regeneration then goes out on the open road, monitored.
- Can someone travel to Hill Corner soon?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is free across the BA area.
- Does the filter come away from the car?
- It is done where it sits, on the call-out service. We never get filters off or put them back on, either way.
- What if the light reappears?
- An engineer comes back out to Hill Corner — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
