Mobile DPF Cleaning serving Higher Town, Cornwall

Mobile DPF cleaning travels to the car. Your motor isn't taken off and the filter will not come off. An engineer turns up at your address over in Higher Town, cleans the diesel particulate filter fitted to the car and performs a DPF regeneration.

You'll know a number by phone before anyone departs, the clean opening from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.

Most drivers find us with the light already on, and the car down on power. That is exactly what this page is written for.

The DPF light is on. What now?

Not the filter, automatically. Opening thing to say. That light can follow a number of faults, not merely one, so the visit starts with a check and not with a clean.

It matters what you manage with the vehicle between now and the appointment.

  • Vehicle still driving as normal on an amber light — try a long constant run first. It costs nothing at all and frequently clears the filter without help.
  • Car already dropped into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not touch it now.
  • Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop planning long drives and get it looked at.

What the car has been telling you

Symptoms have usually been mounting for a while before the light ever shows. Late news, in other words:

  • going uphill, the power tails off
  • an engine whose revs will not pull like they did
  • economy that is worse than before
  • the stop/start quietly packing in
  • diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the box

Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. Alongside the light, it is a fair guess the filter is blocked.

Why diesel particulate filters choke round Higher Town

Higher Town is a coastal village, and the motoring that belongs to one is the worst sort for a DPF. A regeneration wants time and heat, and sees not much: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on Higher Town Quay at the morning rush, not on a few minutes to Tresco Stores and Deli, and not on the dash to the nearest station. Instead of burning away, the unburnt soot banks up.

The map does not help either. The M5 is over 50 miles from Higher Town and Truro is over 50 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way regularly, whole weeks go by without the sustained run that could empty the filter alone.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops

The vehicle is defending itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. With power held down and the revs held, the regeneration the filter requires can never run at all. That matters, because starting one is exactly what a sustained run does.

Taking it up the motorway is the common advice, and it works up to a line. Past that line — limp mode — more driving will not do it, and the filter needs a clean.

The filter does not come off. That is the detail most people do not see coming: the job happens with the DPF still bolted to the vehicle, on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the vehicle can wait for a few hours.

Nothing is touched until other faults are ruled out. That involves a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a check of the sensors, glow plugs and associated components.

Next comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the car's own access point, opening out inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration cannot. A second pass is sometimes needed on badly loaded filters.

What the clean has freed is then burned off by a regeneration. Come with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of Higher Town. Drop it and the regeneration goes in place, with running data checked once it is done.

Finally the check runs again — the change proven, the light cleared, anything still showing noted. Both sets of figures come to you by email, so the numbers are on record.

When a DPF clean is not the answer

Cleaning cures one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:

  • the wrong reading from a pressure or temperature sensor
  • a jammed EGR valve
  • AdBlue system failures
  • glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration starting in the first place
  • oil coming through the filter from a worn turbo

That is what the first scan is for. Transpiring to be one of them means learning it before any work begins, not after paying anything.

DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is swapped: the filter you own is cleaned where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it cut out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth noting.

DPF cleaning prices in Higher Town

Any visit attracts a call-out charge — travelling to you, taking the booking, doing the scan and passing on the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.

The number is fixed on the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be honest. What you own and where you are both move it: Higher Town itself, across at Old Grimsby, or otherwise out across the TR postcode area.

If the check rules a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. What nonetheless stands is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the scan was carried out and the advice was passed on.

If the light reappears inside that period, an engineer heads back out to Higher Town — the job carries a 30-day warranty including aftercare.

Rang them and they came out the same day, done a deep clean on the dpf, so will have to see if it has worked.

Keiran the man who done the cleaning of was very polite and professional he done a good job very pleased thanks.

Barney O.

Excellent service from mobile DPF cleaner. Booked around lunchtime, then a same day service, albeit quite late in the evening by the time the mechanic arrived! However, he got the job done, and advised me of what else was needed to ensure that I didn't have any recurrence.

What we clean, and how far we travel near Higher Town

The filter is treated where it sits on all of them: cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.

Engineers are along Higher Town Quay week in week out, so Higher Town is hardly ever a journey of its own, and the same run covers Old Grimsby, Dolphin Town and the places out past New Grimsby. Farther out across Cornwall is still worth ringing about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that decides between this day and the next.

What Higher Town drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run shift it?
If you catch it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. It needs a long run at motorway speed, not five minutes to Tresco Stores and Deli and back.
The visit takes how long?
Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is heavily loaded.
What does it cost across Higher Town?
It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the number, so we settle it on the phone.
Have I got to be present?
Nobody expects you to stand with it — the vehicle simply needs space to sit for a couple of hours. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive instead.
How soon can someone get to Higher Town?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the schedule. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the TR area has free.
The filter — does it come off the car?
Treated where it is, on this service, so no. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
The light comes back — then what?
The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer returning to Higher Town.
