Mobile DPF Cleaning in Hewish, Somerset
Sorting the DPF takes place at the car, not at a garage. Your vehicle is not taken anywhere and the filter doesn't leave it. An engineer arrives at your address across Hewish, cleans the diesel particulate filter fitted to the motor and carries out a DPF regeneration.
Reckon on the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, agreed on the phone before anyone travels.
The light is on already and the motor is low on power — that is how we generally come across people, and roughly what this page covers.
DPF light on? What comes next
First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. A clean is not where a visit begins. A check is — a number of faults register as the same warning.
It counts what you get with the motor between now and the appointment.
- Amber light, car still driving as normal — a long constant run can yet sort it by itself. Costs nothing at all, and worth trying before you call anything.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, driving will not shift it. The window has shut.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under acceleration — stop planning long drives and get it looked at.
The car has been telling you already
Belated news, the light. The symptoms tend to mount for weeks before it arrives:
- dropping away on power, particularly uphill
- you find the revs fall short of where they once went
- worse fuel consumption
- a stop/start that has silently bowed out
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive. It is a fair bet the filter is blocked once the light is there too.
Clogged diesel particulate filters around Hewish, and the reason
For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the type you get around a village such as Hewish. The school run to Maiden Beech Academy, Hewish Lane at a halt at the morning rush, a few minutes to Waitrose, the dash to Crewkerne — not one bit of it runs long enough or is hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. Instead of burning off, the soot load collects.
The M5 stands under 15 miles from Hewish, Wells under 25 miles away, and unless something carries you out that way often, full weeks slip past without the long steady run that scours a unit. Geography does not oblige.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it
The car is looking after itself, which is what limp mode is. Power is held down, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter wants can never happen — which is the entire difficulty, because a proper drive works by starting that regeneration.
Sound advice, that motorway run — right up until the point it is not. Once the car is in limp mode you are beyond that point, and the filter wants cleaning rather than more driving.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is treated in Hewish
Most owners do not anticipate this bit: the filter stays put. The job happens with the DPF even now fitted to the car — on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the car can sit for a couple of hours.
First a check. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a weight, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the related components — all of it taken before anything is cleaned.
A cleaning solution then goes in through the access port on that vehicle, expanding inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Where the filter is badly loaded, expect a second pass.
A regeneration comes next, driving off what the clean has loosened. Stay with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of Hewish. Leave it and the regeneration goes in place, with running data read once it is done.
A second check confirms the change, puts out the warning light and logs anything still showing. Both reports are emailed, so you keep the before and after figures recorded.
The failures a DPF clean cannot fix
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean answers. It will not reach:
- temperature or pressure sensors flagging a block that is not there
- EGR valves that stick open
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration starting whatsoever
- turbo trouble, with oil entering the filter
Finding that out is the first check's job. You are let know before the work begins, not after you have settled up, should it turns out to be one of those.
Two things more worth bearing in mind. Having the filter gutted is not a remedy — a vehicle without a working DPF fails its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your existing filter is cleared in place and put back into use.
The price of DPF cleaning across Hewish
The treatment opens from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that follows.
No flat rate would be truthful, so the price is agreed by the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. The place you are counts as much as what you drive: Hewish itself, Coombe nearby, or farther out across the TA postcode area.
If the scan counts cleaning out, there is no charge to pay for it. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge still holds.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer comes back to Hewish.

Vehicles we clean, and where we get to round Hewish
The one on-site service covers cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant and construction machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated where it sits rather than carried anywhere.
Hewish is hardly ever a special trip: technicians are along Hewish Lane nearly every week, and the same run covers Coombe, Wayford and the places out past Clapton. Further out across Somerset is still worth ringing about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that settles between today and tomorrow.
Hewish itself
Hewish is a small village in Somerset, situated on the riverside at an elevation of 102 metres, with detached housing being the predominant type of accommodation. Hewish is located near other rural settlements such as Woolminstone, Roundham, and Coombe, and is approximately 24.6 miles from the city of Wells. Hewish has a population of around 294 residents, who live in a peaceful environment surrounded by the Somerset countryside. Hewish is also relatively far from London, at a distance of 124.8 miles.
Questions Hewish drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- If you spot it in time, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. It takes a sustained run at motorway speed, not ten minutes flat to Waitrose and back.
- About how long does it last?
- Plan on typically around 2 hours — heavily clogged filters sometimes need a second pass, which lengthens it.
- Cost around Hewish — what is it?
- Starting from £299, with a charge for the call-out that covers the check and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why settling it happens by phone.
- Is it necessary for me to be present?
- No. The vehicle needs a spot to sit for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive instead.
- Getting to Hewish — how soon?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is normal. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the TA area has available.
- The filter — does it leave the vehicle?
- Not on the call-out service — it is done where it is. We never take filters off or fit them back on, in either direction.
- Suppose the light returns?
- An engineer heads back out to Hewish — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
