Mobile DPF Cleaning around Heugh-head and Aberdeenshire
The vehicle stays put — mobile DPF cleaning goes to it. A fitter comes at your address over in Heugh-head, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the motor, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the figure is settled over the phone before anyone leaves.
The light is showing and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we generally come across people, and precisely what this page deals with.
The DPF light is on. What now?
First thing: it is not always the DPF. A diagnostic goes before any work, because that same panel light has several candidate faults behind it.
The motoring you get in the meantime counts. That is the other thing.
- Amber light, car even now driving normally — a long even run can yet clear it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you book anything.
- Once the car is in limp mode, a long run will not touch it. The window has shut.
- Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration — stop planning long drives and get it looked at.
Before the light, what the vehicle was showing you
Belated news, the light. The symptoms generally mount for a while before it arrives:
- less power, particularly pulling uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they used to
- fuel consumption turning worse
- without a word, the stop/start bows out
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is full.
Why diesel particulate filters block round Heugh-head
For a DPF, the poorest motoring is the kind you get in a rural hamlet such as Heugh-head. A regeneration needs long enough and heat, and sees not much: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on A944 at half past eight, not on five minutes to the local shops, and not on the dash to the nearest station. Unburnt soot that should clear builds up instead.
Unless you have a regular cause to drive out to the M90, over 50 miles from Heugh-head, or across to Aberdeen under 50 miles away, entire weeks slip past without a long steady stint. Geography is against you.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
Limp mode is the vehicle defending itself. A long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode blocks: power limited, revs pinned, no regeneration possible.
Sensible advice, that motorway run — until the moment it is not. The filter wants cleaning rather than more driving once the motor has gone into limp mode.
On-site DPF cleaning where the car stands across Heugh-head
Nothing is taken from the car. That surprises people. The DPF stays fixed where it is and the work goes on around it, on a driveway, in a works car park, any place it can sit for a few hours.
First a diagnostic. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a weight, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the connected components — all of it taken before anything is cleaned.
A solution next is fed in through the access port on that vehicle, spreading inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration alone will never budge. Where the filter is severely loaded, expect a second pass.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean lifted. That is a monitored drive out of Heugh-head if you are along, or a static regeneration where the vehicle sits, with the running data checked afterwards.
A second diagnostic proves the change, resets the warning light and logs anything still showing. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so you keep the before and after figures recorded.
What a DPF clean will not cure
Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- a pressure sensor reporting a blockage that is not there
- a failed EGR valve
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration completing in the first place
- turbo problems, with oil reaching the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. Turning out to be one of them means learning it before the work begins, not after settling up for it.
Two things more worth noting. Getting the filter hollowed out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a functioning DPF fails its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your existing filter is treated in place and returned into use.
The figure for DPF cleaning around Heugh-head
Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.
Quoting a flat rate would not be truthful. We settle it by phone, once the vehicle and its expected needs are established. Whereabouts you are counts as much as what you run: Heugh-head itself, Forbestown close by, or farther out within the AB postcode area.
Where the scan says cleaning will not do it, you are not asked to pay for cleaning. What nonetheless holds is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the diagnostic was carried out and the advice was passed on.
If the light returns inside that time, an engineer heads back out to Heugh-head — the clean carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
I waited a month just to see, but now I'm so happy with their work, Wonderful company, easy booking, they really do their work impeccably and are reasonably flexible. They did work on my civic, ash values went from 66grams to 0.
Dan was fabulous and courteous. He did mention before the clean that the DPF was nearly empty and it was up to me still go ahead with the clean. The clean was performed and the number did improve. Great advice and prompt service. Highly recommended.
Atilla went out of his way to diagnose and fix my recurring Dpf issues. Explained everything at fault and remedies, as well as having a chat despite it being late. What a nice guy he was, more than happy with the service DPF Fixers provide.
Where we reach around Heugh-head, and what we clean
Whatever it is — private car, light van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the one mobile service holds, and the filter never departs it.
Most weeks there is usually someone on A944, so Heugh-head seldom means a special trip, and Forbestown, Bellabeg and the places past Logie Coldstone are on the way. Call anyway from farther out across Aberdeenshire. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the day you are offered comes down to the calendar rather than how far away you are.

What Heugh-head drivers wonder about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- Sometimes, if you spot it in time and the motor has not slipped into limp mode. That requires motorway speed for a long run, rather than a short trip to the local shops.
- Broadly how long does it run?
- Expect typically around 2 hours — severely clogged filters sometimes need a second pass, which lengthens it.
- How much does it come to in Heugh-head?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We quote on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the number.
- Is it essential for me to be present?
- The car wants a space for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a watched drive instead.
- When can someone get to Heugh-head?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is typical. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the AB area has available.
- Will the filter be removed?
- Not on the call-out service — it is cleaned where it is. Taking a filter off or putting one back on amount to anything something we do whichever way.
- And if the light returns?
- Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Heugh-head.
