Mobile DPF Cleaning around Heslington and North Yorkshire
With call-out DPF cleaning, we travel to the car. The fitter turns up at your place in Heslington and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is cleared on the motor, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you end up with the filter you came with.
The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the price is settled over the phone before anyone leaves.
Most owners find us with the light showing, and the vehicle short of power. That is the position this page is written for.
Your DPF light is showing — what then?
It could not be the unit whatsoever. That is the main thing. A clean is not where a visit starts. A diagnostic is — several faults register as the same warning.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then matters.
- Worth a try before you ring anything: amber light, vehicle driving as normal, just one steady run, no charge.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has by then gone.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under the throttle — stop booking long drives and get it seen to.
The car has been showing you already
The light is belated news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been mounting for some time:
- less power, above all pulling uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise as before
- the fuel use is down
- without a word, the stop/start packs in
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
That is not evidence on its own. With the light with them, the filter is a fair assumption.
What clogs diesel particulate filters around Heslington
For a DPF, the poorest driving is the sort you find around a village such as Heslington. The school run to Lord Deramore's Primary School, Main Street at a standstill at the morning rush, a few minutes to The Co-operative Food, the hop to York — nothing of it lasts long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. What should burn away remains.
Neither is distant from Heslington: under 15 miles to the A1(M), under 3 miles to York. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the drive that would clear a filter simply never happens.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode is. Output is held down, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter wants can not complete — which is the real catch, because a long drive works by starting that regeneration.
Running it up the motorway is the usual advice, and it works right up to a point. Once the motor is in limp mode you are the far side of that line, and the filter wants cleaning rather than road work.
Call-out DPF cleaning where the car stands across Heslington
Most drivers do not anticipate this part: the filter remains. The job is done with the DPF even now bolted to the car — on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the car can wait for a couple of hours.
First a check. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a weight, the sensors, the glow plugs, the associated hardware — all of it read before any of it is started.
A cleaning fluid then goes in through the entry point on that motor, expanding inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. Where the filter is heavily blocked, allow for a second pass.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Heslington if you are there, or a static regeneration where the motor stands, with the running data checked afterwards.
Then a second diagnostic, proving the change, putting out the warning light and listing anything still showing. Both read-outs are emailed, so the before and after figures are on record.
Where cleaning is not the answer
Cleaning fixes one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- the wrong reading from a temperature or pressure sensor
- a failed EGR valve
- the AdBlue system playing up
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever starts
- oil working through the filter from a faulty turbo
That is what the first scan is for. You are told before all work starts, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
A couple more worth noting. Having the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a working DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your original filter is treated in place and returned into use.
What DPF cleaning runs to across Heslington
Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.
The figure is agreed over the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be honest. What you own and where you are both shift it: Heslington itself, over at Walmgate Stray, or further out across the YO postcode area.
You are not billed for cleaning that the diagnostic says will not do it. The call-out charge even so stands, because the visit, the check and the advice have been done.
If the light reappears inside that period, an engineer travels back out to Heslington — the job includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.

Where we reach round Heslington, and what we clean
One on-site service takes in private cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated where it sits rather than carried anywhere.
Nearly every week there is already someone on Main Street, so Heslington hardly ever means a detour, and Walmgate Stray, Tang Hall and the villages past Osbaldwick are on the way. Phone anyway from even further out through North Yorkshire. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the day you are offered hangs on the diary rather than how far away you are.

Things Heslington drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run sort it?
- Sometimes, if you catch it in time and the car has not dropped into limp mode. That requires motorway speed for a long spell, rather than a quick trip to The Co-operative Food.
- Does the visit run long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A badly clogged filter can need a second clean, which lengthens that.
- How much does it run to across Heslington?
- Starting from £299, with a charge for the call-out that pays for the scan and advice on what to do next. Pricing is done by phone, since what you run and where you are both change the price.
- Is it necessary for me to be around?
- The vehicle needs a place for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. The regeneration can be done as a watched drive if you would prefer to come along.
- Can someone get to Heslington soon?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is free across the YO area.
- The filter — does it come away from the vehicle?
- It is cleaned where it is, on the mobile service. Getting a filter off or bolting one back on count as anything something we do either way.
- And if the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Heslington.
