Mobile DPF Cleaning in Hermitage and Dorset
Sorting the DPF takes place at the car, not at a workshop. A technician comes at your door across Hermitage, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.
Allow for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, fixed on the phone before anyone leaves.
If the light is already on and the vehicle is down on power, this page is the right one. That is how most owners end up here.
What to check when the DPF light comes on
The DPF is not necessarily what is to blame, and that leads. That light can follow several faults, not just one, so the visit opens with a diagnostic and not with a clean.
Second thing: how you handle it between now and then counts.
- Amber light, car yet driving fine — a long steady run can still sort it by itself. Costs zero, and worth a try before you ring anything.
- That window has closed once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. Driving will not do it now.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under acceleration — stop booking long drives and get it looked at.
Signs the motor has been sending you
By the time the light shows, things have usually been going wrong for weeks. It is late news:
- pulling uphill, the power tails off
- the revs no longer pull the way they used to
- the fuel use is worse
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- the car reeking of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
By itself, none of that is proof. It is a fair bet the filter is blocked once the light is there too.
What chokes diesel particulate filters near Hermitage
Being a village, Hermitage throws up just the driving a DPF manages worst. Nothing of it goes on long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration: the school run to Buckland Newton Church of England Primary School, Gunville Lane barely moving at half past eight, five minutes to Hunt's, the run to Chetnole. The unburnt soot builds up rather than burning off.
The M5 sits under 50 miles from Hermitage, Wells under 25 miles away, and unless something carries you out that way routinely, entire weeks slip past without the long steady run that clears a unit. Geography does not oblige.
DPF regeneration, and the moment limp mode kills it
What limp mode means is the motor defending itself. Power is capped, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter requires can not happen — which is the entire catch, because a long drive works by triggering that regeneration.
Running it up the motorway is the common advice, and it holds up to a point. The filter needs treatment rather than road work once the car has dropped into limp mode.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the motor stands round Hermitage
The filter does not come off. That is the detail most drivers do not see coming: the job happens with the DPF even now bolted to the car, on your driveway, in a work car park, anywhere the car can wait for a while.
A diagnostic happens first — running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a review of the sensor readings, glow plugs and associated parts, so other faults are cleared before any of it is touched.
Then the clean. A cleaning fluid is fed in through the entry point on that car and expands inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. Where the filter is severely clogged, allow for a second pass.
What the clean has lifted is then driven off by a regeneration. Come with the vehicle and it turns into a monitored drive out of Hermitage. Drop it and the regeneration goes in place, with running data verified once it is done.
Then a second scan, proving the change, putting out the warning light and logging anything still logged. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are on record.
Where cleaning is not the fix
Only one fault is answered by treatment: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- a pressure sensor showing a blockage that is not there
- the EGR valve held open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration starting at all
- oil working through the filter from a faulty turbo
Which is why the scan comes first. Where it proves to be one of those, you are told before any work begins rather than after you have settled up anything.
Hollowing the filter out is not a fix: without a functioning DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the phrase people search for, though nothing is swapped — your existing filter is cleaned in place and returned into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
What DPF cleaning costs around Hermitage
Any visit takes a call-out charge — travelling to you, setting up the booking, carrying out the check and offering the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
Once we have what you run, and broadly what the filter will want, the number gets fixed on the phone. A single price for every job would not be straight. What you drive and where you are both move it: Hermitage itself, across at Lyons Gate, or farther out across the DT postcode area.
Where the scan says cleaning will not help, you are not asked to pay for treatment. You still pay that charge: someone came out, ran the scan and offered you the advice.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer comes back to Hermitage.
Daniel was excellent. He carried out the work efficiently and professionally. Diagnosed the fault and sorted it out. Thank you Daniel.
Liam came to the House next day, incredibly helpful bloke, talked me through everything and how to stop the DPF blocking up in the future. Well worth the money, saved me loads of problems, highly recommend these guys.
A friendly and professional service, I was particularly impressed with the stress placed on understanding the way in which the exhaust emission control system works and the importance of regularly topping up the AdBlue tank.
Where we travel around Hermitage, and what we clean
Cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, farm vehicles — the one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
Our engineers are along Gunville Lane nearly every week, so Hermitage is hardly ever a journey of its own, and the same run picks up Lyons Gate, Totnell and the places out past Glanvilles Wootton. It is the diary, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so call anyway from even further out across Dorset.

Things Hermitage drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough alone?
- Early enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it takes — not ten minutes to Hunt's and back.
- Does the visit take long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily clogged filter can take a second clean, which extends that.
- What does it come to in Hermitage?
- The call-out charge takes in the visit, the scan and the advice; the clean itself starts from £299. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both move the figure.
- Have I got to be around?
- You do not need to stand with it — the car only needs space to wait for a couple of hours. Come along if you like, and the regeneration turns into a watched drive.
- Can someone travel to Hermitage soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the calendar. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is free across the DT area.
- Is the filter lifted off the motor?
- Not on the mobile service — it is treated where it stands. Neither lifting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- Suppose the light comes back?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer coming back to Hermitage.
