Mobile DPF Cleaning across Heaste, Highland

With call-out DPF cleaning, we travel to the motor. No workshop, no filter leaving. A technician drives out to your address in Heaste, clears the diesel particulate filter as it sits, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.

You'll have a figure by phone before anyone leaves, the clean opening from £299, and the visit lasting typically around 2 hours.

Most people find us with the light already on, and the motor low on power. That is the situation this page is meant for.

Your DPF light is lit — what then?

First thing: it is not necessarily the filter. Cleaning is not where a visit begins. A scan is — plenty of faults register as the same light.

The driving you manage in the meantime matters. That is the next thing.

  • Amber light, motor yet driving normally — a long constant run can even now shift it alone. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you ring anything.
  • A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
  • Stop planning long drives and get it checked if the interior stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.

Signs the motor has been showing you

Symptoms have usually been mounting for some time before the light so much as appears. Last news, in other words:

  • climbing uphill, the power tails off
  • an engine whose revs will not climb as before
  • fuel consumption going worse
  • the stop/start silently giving up
  • a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under the throttle

Any one of those, taken by itself, is not evidence. With the light, it is a fair guess the filter is blocked.

The cause diesel particulate filters clog round Heaste

Being a coastal area, Heaste throws up just the use a DPF handles least well. None of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, Drumfearn Road standing at half eight, five minutes to Co-op Food, the run to Kyle of Lochalsh. The soot load banks up rather than clearing.

Except when you have a regular need to head out to the M8, over 50 miles from Heaste, or across to Inverness over 50 miles away, entire weeks pass without a sustained run. Geography is against you.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops

Limp mode is the motor protecting itself. The entire catch is that a proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not climb and power is held down.

The standard advice — take it up the motorway — is sound, up until it is not. The filter wants a clean rather than road work once the car has slipped into limp mode.

DPF cleaning for a clogged filter across Heaste, Highland

Where the car stands is where the DPF is done round Heaste

The filter does not come off. That is the part most owners do not expect: the job happens with the DPF yet fitted to the car, on your front, in a work car park, wherever the motor can stand for a few hours.

A scan happens first — live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and associated components, so other faults are eliminated before any of it is started.

A cleaning solution then goes in through the access port on that car, expanding inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never budge. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to require doing twice.

What the clean has freed is then burned off by a regeneration. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Heaste; if not, on the spot where the car sits, with the live data checked after.

Finally the scan runs again — the change proven, the light reset, anything still outstanding logged. Both read-outs arrive with you by email, so the numbers are kept.

Where treatment is not the solution

Only one fault is cured by cleaning: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does little for:

  • temperature or pressure sensors showing a restriction that is not there
  • an EGR valve stuck open
  • a failure in the AdBlue system
  • injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration starting at all
  • a turbo pushing oil through the filter

The first check is there for just that. Where one of those is the fault, you hear about it at the outset rather than once the money has gone for good.

Two things more worth bearing in mind. Getting the filter gutted is not a remedy — a vehicle without a functioning DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your own filter is cleared in place and sent back into use.

What DPF cleaning runs to across Heaste

The cleaning begins from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that comes with it.

No flat rate would be honest, so the price is fixed by the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. Two things move it: what you drive, and where you are — Heaste itself, across at Drumfearn, or otherwise out within the IV postcode area.

You are not asked to pay for cleaning that the diagnostic says will not work. The call-out charge still holds, because the visit, the scan and the advice have happened.

Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer heads back to Heaste.

Where we travel round Heaste, and what we clean

Whatever it is — estate, light van, light commercial, HGV, plant, construction machinery, agricultural machine — the very same call-out service stands, and the filter never leaves it.

Heaste is hardly ever a special trip: technicians are along Drumfearn Road most weeks, and the same run picks up Drumfearn, Sgalamus and the spots out past Broadford. Even further out through Highland is still worth phoning about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that settles between today and tomorrow.

Things Heaste drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive sort it?
Sometimes, if you get it in time and the car has not fallen into limp mode. It takes a sustained run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes or so to Co-op Food and back.
Does the visit run long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily blocked filter can take a second clean, which adds to that.
How much does it run to around Heaste?
The call-out charge covers the visit, the check and the advice; cleaning itself opens from £299. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the number.
Is it necessary for me to be around?
No. The motor needs space to sit for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. The regeneration can be run as a supervised drive if you would rather come along.
How soon can someone come to Heaste?
You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the schedule. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is open across the IV area.
Is the filter taken off the motor?
It is treated where it is, on the mobile service. That job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
Suppose the light comes back?
Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Heaste.
