Symptoms have normally been building for a while before the light so much as arrives. Late news, in other words:
- tailing off on power, particularly uphill
- revs that will not rise the way they always did
- the fuel consumption is poorer
- the stop/start quietly bowing out
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
That is not conclusive by itself. It is a fair assumption the filter is loaded once the light is on as well.
The reason diesel particulate filters block near Heanor Gate
