Mobile DPF Cleaning in Headwell and Fife
Cleaning the DPF takes place at the car, not at a workshop. A technician comes at your door in Headwell, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.
The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the number is agreed on the phone before anyone leaves.
The light is already on and the car is low on power — that is how we normally meet people, and roughly what this page is about.
What to check when the DPF light is on
It might not be the filter whatsoever. That is the first thing. A number of faults put the same light on the identical dash, which is why a visit opens with a check rather than with a clean.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then makes a difference.
- A long steady run may still manage it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle runs fine. Costs zero, so try that before booking.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under the throttle, is the point to stop arranging long drives and ring.
The motor has been telling you already
By the time the light shows, things have usually been slipping for some time. It is late news:
- less power, especially climbing uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they once did
- consumption that is worse than it was
- a stop/start that has silently bowed out
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gears
Any one of those, taken alone, is not proof. Next to the light beside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
What chokes diesel particulate filters near Headwell
For a DPF, the least kind use is the sort you get in a residential suburb such as Headwell. The school run to the local primary school, Edward Street at a standstill at half eight, a few minutes to B&M, the dash to Dunfermline City — none of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. What should burn away stays put.
Geography does not help either. The M90 is under 3 miles from Headwell and Dunfermline is under a mile away, so unless something pulls you out that way routinely, weeks pass without the long steady run that could scour the filter by itself.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer run
It is self-preservation: that is all limp mode is. The entire problem is that a sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not pull and power is capped.
Taking it up the motorway is the standard advice, and it holds as far as a line. The filter needs a clean rather than driving once the motor has slipped into limp mode.
DPF cleaning at the car round Headwell
On your drive, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can sit for a couple of hours: the job is done with the filter yet fitted on, which is the part most people do not see coming.
Nothing is touched until other faults are ruled out. That involves a scan first: live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a check of the sensors, glow plugs and connected parts.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never shift are freed after that, by a cleaning solution put through the entry point on that car, which spreads inside the filter. Where the filter is severely loaded, plan on a second pass.
Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean loosened. Come with the vehicle and it turns into a monitored drive out of Headwell. Leave it and the regeneration is done statically, with live data verified once it is done.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change proven, the light cleared, anything still outstanding logged. Both sets of figures arrive with you by email, so the numbers are on record.
The faults a DPF clean cannot answer
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning cures. It will not reach:
- temperature or pressure sensors showing a blockage that is not there
- EGR valves that jam open
- AdBlue system failures
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration completing at all
- turbo failure, with oil getting into the filter
Which is why the diagnostic happens first. If one of those is the fault, you learn of it in advance rather than once the money has left already.
DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is replaced: the filter you already own is cleaned where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it cut out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth knowing.
What DPF cleaning comes to around Headwell
Treatment begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
Publishing a flat rate would not be truthful. We fix it over phone, once the motor and its probable needs are known. The motor moves it, and so does the postcode — Headwell, Gardeners Lands, or anywhere farther out in the KY postcode area.
Where the check says a clean will not help, you are not asked to pay for a clean. Because the visit, the check and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge even so holds.
If the light comes back inside that period, an engineer heads back out to Headwell — the job includes a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
Highly recommend DPF fixer, Jason done excellent job, informed us what he was doing, throughout job and told us what all the readings was when he finished. If u need a DPF clean these are ones to call. Super fast service and good price too.
Engineer was very informative and polite, my car was fixed and I can only assume it will be ok in the future. Good service from this company.
Zoltan arrived as expected and got on with job, no time wasting. Whatever he did has worked and the fault has been rectified. A nice young man a credit to your company.
Where we travel round Headwell, and what we clean
A single mobile service covers private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned where it sits rather than carried anywhere.
Week in week out there is usually someone on Edward Street, so Headwell rarely means a journey of its own, and Gardeners Lands, Castleblair Park and the places past Crossford are on the way. Farther out across Fife is still worth phoning about — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that decides between today and tomorrow.

What Headwell drivers wonder about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive clear it?
- If you spot it in time, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it needs — not five minutes flat to B&M and back.
- The visit takes how long?
- Expect typically around 2 hours — severely clogged filters sometimes take a second pass, which extends it.
- What does it run to across Headwell?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the check and the advice. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the number.
- Must I be present in person?
- No. The motor needs space to wait for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Ride along if you like, and the regeneration is done as a monitored drive.
- When can someone get to Headwell?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the schedule. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what the KY area has available.
- Is the filter taken off the car?
- It is done where it sits, on the call-out service. We will not get filters off or fit them back on, whichever way.
- And if the light comes back?
- Taken in by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Headwell.
