Mobile DPF Cleaning serving Harome, North Yorkshire
The vehicle stays where it is — call-out DPF cleaning comes to it. No body shop, no filter coming off. An engineer drives out to your place over in Harome, treats the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.
Nobody leaves until the price is fixed over the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
If the light is on already and the vehicle is short of power, this page is yours. That is how most owners end up here.
Your DPF light is lit — what now?
Not the filter, necessarily. First thing to note. That light can follow plenty of faults, not merely one, so the visit opens with a scan and not with cleaning.
It tells what you get with the car between now and the booking.
- Motor still driving normally on an amber light — have a go at a long even run first. It costs nothing and often shifts the filter without assistance.
- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has now gone.
- A diesel smell inside, or black smoke under acceleration, is the moment to stop booking long drives and ring.
The motor has been telling you already
The light is belated news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have normally been building for some time:
- going uphill, the power tails off
- you see the revs fall short of where they once went
- consumption that is worse than it was
- the stop/start without a word packing in
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the box
Any one of those, taken singly, is not conclusive. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is there too.
Clogged diesel particulate filters near Harome, and the why
Harome is a village, and the day-to-day driving that comes with one is the poorest type for a DPF. Nothing of it goes on long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to Nawton Community Primary School, Owmen Field Lane barely moving at the morning rush, five minutes to Co-op Food, the hop to Malton. Instead of burning away, the soot load collects.
Save when you have a routine need to head out to the A1(M), under 25 miles from Harome, or over to York under 25 miles away, entire weeks pass without a long unbroken stint. Geography is no help.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
It is self-defence: that is all limp mode amounts to. With pulling power capped and the revs held, the regeneration the filter requires will not happen at all. That tells, because starting one is exactly what a long run does.
So the common advice to run it up the motorway is sound advice, up until it stops being. In limp mode you are past that line: cleaning is what will work, not more road work.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is done in Harome
On your driveway, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can wait for a while: the job is done with the filter yet bolted on, which is the detail most people do not expect.
First a scan. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a mass, the sensors, the glow plugs, the connected parts — all of it read before a thing is cleaned.
Next comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the car's own access port, opening out inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration never can. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to require doing twice.
What the clean has freed is then burned off by a regeneration. Stay with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of Harome. Leave it and the regeneration is done on the spot, with running data verified once it is done.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change proven, the light cleared, anything still showing written down. Both read-outs reach you by email, so the numbers are recorded.
What a DPF clean will not fix
A clean cures one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- the wrong figure from a temperature sensor
- an EGR valve held open
- the AdBlue system failing
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration completing at all
- a turbo passing oil through the filter
That is what the first scan is for. If it turns out to be one of those, you are told before any work starts rather than after you have paid for it.
A couple more worth knowing. Getting the filter cut out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your original filter is cleared in place and sent back into use.
What DPF cleaning comes to around Harome
Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
Once we know what you run, and roughly what the filter will take, the price gets settled by phone. A single price for everyone would not be honest. What you run and where you are both move it: Harome itself, over at Nawton, or otherwise out within the YO postcode area.
Where the diagnostic says cleaning will not help, you are not billed for treatment. You nonetheless pay that charge: someone turned up, carried out the diagnostic and passed on you the advice.
The work comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Harome if the light reappears inside that window.

Vehicles we clean, and where we get to round Harome
The filter is cleaned in place on all of them: cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is carried anywhere.
Harome is hardly ever a special trip: technicians are out on Owmen Field Lane nearly every week, and the same run takes in Nawton, Nunnington and the spots out past Beadlam. It is the schedule, not the distance, that picks whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone still from even further out through North Yorkshire.

Things Harome drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I simply take it for a long drive?
- If you catch it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Fifteen minutes to Co-op Food and back will not be enough; motorway speed, sustained for some time, will.
- Does the visit run long?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — heavily blocked filters sometimes take a second pass, which lengthens it.
- Across Harome, what does it come to?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Pricing is done by phone, since what you drive and where you live both shift the price.
- Must I be there in person?
- The vehicle requires a spot for two hours or so. You need not be in it. Wanting to be there is fine: the regeneration then goes out on the road, monitored.
- Can someone get to Harome soon?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is open across the YO area.
- Is the filter lifted off the vehicle?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. And neither does lifting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
- What if the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Harome.
