Mobile DPF Cleaning around Hampton and Greater London

Sorting the DPF happens at the motor, not at a body shop. No workshop, no filter leaving. A technician drives out to your address across Hampton, cleans the diesel particulate filter in place, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.

Budget for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, agreed over the phone before anyone leaves.

Most owners find us with the light on already, and the car down on power. That is the position this page is aimed at.

DPF light on? What comes next

First thing: it is not automatically the DPF. A scan goes before any work, because that same dash light has plenty of likely faults behind it.

How the car is driven in the meantime matters too.

  • A long steady run may still be enough, provided the light is amber and the motor goes fine. Costs nothing, so try that before calling.
  • That window has gone once the motor has dropped into limp mode. A drive will not get there now.
  • Get it looked at rather than running it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.

Before the light, what the motor was warning you

By the time the light appears, things have usually been deteriorating for some time. It is last news:

  • tailing off on power, above all uphill
  • revs that will not climb the way they once did
  • the fuel economy is poorer
  • a stop/start that has quietly packed in
  • the interior stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on

That is not proof by itself. The light with them indicates a full filter.

What chokes diesel particulate filters around Hampton

Hampton is a small village, and the driving that comes with one is the least kind kind for a DPF. A regeneration wants long enough and heat, and gets not much: not on the school run to Carlisle Infant School, not on Broad Lane at half past eight, not on a few minutes to Waitrose, and not on the run to the nearest station. The unburnt soot collects rather than burning away.

Where you sit does not assist either. The M3 is under 3 miles from Hampton and Westminster is under 15 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way regularly, whole weeks pass without the long steady run that would empty the filter alone.

Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration

Limp mode is the vehicle defending itself. A sustained drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode rules out: power held down, revs pinned, no regeneration on offer.

The common advice — take it up the motorway — is sound, up until it is not. The far side of that stage — limp mode — driving will not do it, and the filter needs treatment.

The clogged filter treated after a warning light in Hampton, Greater London

On-site DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands across Hampton

On your front, in a work car park, any place the car can wait for a while: the job is done with the filter still bolted on, which is the detail most drivers do not expect.

First a scan. Live ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a mass, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the connected hardware — all of it taken before any of it is started.

A cleaning solution after that is injected through the entry point on that motor, opening out inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. Where the filter is severely clogged, expect a second pass.

What the clean has loosened is then driven off by a regeneration. Either it goes as a monitored drive out of Hampton, with you there, or it is done where the vehicle waits and the live data is verified after.

Both read-outs go over by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second scan is what confirms the change, puts out the light and logs whatever is still showing.

What a DPF clean will not fix

One thing is what a clean cures — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • sensors, pressure or temperature, flagging a blockage that is not real
  • an EGR valve stuck open
  • a fault in the AdBlue system
  • failed glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever runs
  • turbo problems, with oil getting into the filter

That is what the first check is for. When it proves to be one of those, you are told before any work starts rather than after you have handed over for it.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out fails its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no fix. What gets searched for as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your filter is cleared in place and goes back into work.

The price of DPF cleaning in Hampton

A clean opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it covers the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.

Quoting a flat rate would not be straight. We agree it by phone, once the car and its probable needs are established. Two separate things move it: what you run, and where you are — Hampton itself, out at Hampton Hill, or further out across the TW postcode area.

Where the diagnostic says treatment will not work, you are not billed for treatment. The call-out charge even so stands, because the visit, the check and the advice have been done.

A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer travelling back out to Hampton if the light reappears inside the period.

The vehicles we clean and the patch we cover round Hampton

The one on-site service spans cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned in place rather than moved anywhere.

Engineers are along Broad Lane most weeks, so Hampton is hardly ever a journey of its own, and the same run covers Hampton Hill, West Molesey and the places out past East Molesey. Even further out across Greater London is even so worth ringing about — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that decides between today and tomorrow.

About Hampton

Hampton is a locality in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, situated on the north bank of the River Thames at an elevation of around 18 metres. Hampton sits within a short distance of nearby places such as Hampton Hill, Fulwell, and Teddington, and is located approximately 11.7 miles from central London. Hampton has a population of around 2675 people and is characterised by predominantly detached housing.

Things Hampton drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run shift it?
Sometimes, if you get it in time and the car has not dropped into limp mode. It takes a steady run at motorway speed, not ten minutes or so to Waitrose and back.
How long does the visit take?
Count on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is badly loaded.
How much does it come to around Hampton?
Cleaning begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the scan and the advice. Quoting is done by phone, since what you own and where you sit both move the number.
Is it necessary for me to be there?
No. The vehicle needs a spot to wait for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be done as a supervised drive instead.
When can someone travel to Hampton?
That hangs on the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the TW area has available.
Will the filter be taken off?
It is treated where it is, on the on-site service. Getting a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything work we do either way.
Suppose the light reappears?
The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Hampton.
