It might not be the filter at all. That is the first thing. Treatment is not where a visit starts. A scan is — several faults register as the same signal.
It matters what you do with the motor between now and the booking.
- A long even run may even now do it, provided the light is amber and the motor runs fine. Costs zero, so attempt that before booking.
- That window has shut once the car has fallen into limp mode. Driving will not help now.
- Get it seen to rather than driving it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.
Before the light, what the motor was telling you
By the time the light appears, things have normally been deteriorating for some time. It is last news:
- power falling off, particularly climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb as before
- the fuel use is poorer
- stop/start without a word bowing out
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
That is not evidence by itself. The light beside them suggests a loaded filter.
Clogged diesel particulate filters round Hallen, and the reason
