Hallatrow, Somerset: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With mobile DPF cleaning, we travel to the motor. The fitter pulls up at your place across Hallatrow and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is treated fitted to the motor, a DPF regeneration follows, and you hold on to the filter you started with.
Budget for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, settled over the phone before anyone travels.
The light is on already and the vehicle is down on power — that is how we generally find people, and precisely what this page is about.
What to check when the DPF light is on
First thing: it is not necessarily the filter. A clean is not where a visit opens. A check is — several faults show up as the same signal.
How the vehicle is run in the meantime counts too.
- Vehicle still driving normally on an amber light — attempt a long steady run first. It costs nothing at all and frequently clears the filter without help.
- Once the vehicle is in limp mode, a long run will not shift it. The window has closed.
- Diesel smell in the cabin, or black smoke under hard acceleration — stop planning long drives and get it seen to.
Before the light, what the motor was telling you
Symptoms have normally been mounting for some time before the light ever appears. Belated news, in other words:
- dropping away on power, especially uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb as they should
- the fuel consumption is poorer
- stop/start silently bowing out
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
None of that is proof on its own. The light with them points at a loaded filter.
Why diesel particulate filters clog near Hallatrow
For a DPF, the worst use is the sort you find in a village such as Hallatrow. Think about an ordinary week: High Littleton CofE VC Primary School and home again, The Grove at a standstill before the hour, a five-minute run to The Co-operative Food, a run to Keynsham. Nothing there lasts long enough or gets hot enough to complete a regeneration. What should burn off stays behind.
Geography does not oblige either. The M32 is under 15 miles from Hallatrow and Bath is under 10 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way often, entire weeks go by without the long steady run that could clear the filter on its own.
Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration
The vehicle is looking after itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. The real catch is that a proper drive works by starting a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not rise and power is held down.
Running it up the motorway is the common advice, and it stands as far as a point. Beyond that point — limp mode — driving will not do it, and the filter needs cleaning.
DPF cleaning at the vehicle across Hallatrow
On your driveway, in a work car park, any place the car can sit for a couple of hours: the job is done with the filter still bolted on, which is the detail most people do not see coming.
First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a weight, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the associated hardware — all of it read before any of it is started.
Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never shift are loosened next, by a cleaning solution passed through the access port on that car, which expands inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to require doing twice.
What the clean has loosened is then cleared by a regeneration. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Hallatrow, with you present, or it runs where the motor sits and the running data is checked once done.
A second diagnostic verifies the change, resets the warning light and lists anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are sent over, so you end up with the before and after figures to hand.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
A filter choked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean cures. It will not touch:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, showing a restriction that is not real
- the EGR valve stuck open
- AdBlue system faults
- glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration completing whatsoever
- oil working through the filter from a failing turbo
That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are warned before all work starts, not after you have paid, where it turns out to be one of those.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter hollowed out cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is against the law, so that is no remedy. What gets typed in as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your filter is treated in place and goes back into use.
Costs for DPF cleaning around Hallatrow
Cleaning starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.
The figure is fixed over the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be honest. The place you are counts as much as what you own: Hallatrow itself, Paulton next door, or farther out across the BS postcode area.
Where the scan says a clean will not do it, you are not charged for a clean. You even so pay that charge: someone turned up, carried out the check and offered you the advice.
A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Hallatrow if the light reappears inside the period.
The dpf fixer mechanic notified me of his impending arrival, carried out the clean, readings and regeneration; and explained the process. Very pleasant and informative.
Liam has done a great job. All things fully explained and good feedback. Your company has been excellent from the initial phone call. Will definitely recommend you to others.
Logan came out and was outstanding. He explained every step and was really patient with all my questions. Highly recommended.
Where we travel around Hallatrow, and what we clean
Cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, agricultural machinery — one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than moved anywhere.
Engineers are along The Grove most weeks, so Hallatrow is rarely a journey of its own, and the same run picks up Paulton, Greyfield and the places out past High Littleton. Farther out through Somerset is even so worth phoning about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that picks between today and tomorrow.

Things Hallatrow drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- It can, provided you get it early enough and limp mode has not begun. Fifteen minutes to The Co-operative Food and back will not manage it; motorway speed, held for a stretch, will.
- The visit takes how long?
- Expect typically around 2 hours — heavily blocked filters sometimes take a second pass, which adds to it.
- How much does it cost across Hallatrow?
- The call-out charge pays for the visit, the check and the advice; cleaning itself begins from £299. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the figure.
- Must I be there in person?
- The motor needs a place for two hours or so. You need not be in it. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a supervised drive instead.
- Coming to Hallatrow — how soon?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is normal. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the BS area has available.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is treated in place. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not a job we do.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Hallatrow.
