Mobile DPF Cleaning around Gwrhay and Caerphilly
With mobile DPF cleaning, we travel to the motor. A technician arrives at your address over in Gwrhay, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the vehicle, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.
Budget for the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, settled over the phone before anyone sets off.
Most owners find us with the light on already, and the car down on power. That is exactly what this page is aimed at.
What to try when the DPF light comes on
Not the filter, always. Main thing to get straight. Plenty of faults put the very same light on the same dashboard, which is why a visit begins with a diagnostic rather than with a clean.
The motoring you manage in the meantime tells. That is the other thing.
- A long steady run may still do it, provided the light is amber and the vehicle drives fine. Costs nothing at all, so try that before calling.
- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has already gone.
- Get it checked rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on the throttle, has gone well past the long-run stage.
What the motor has been showing you
By the time the light shows, things have usually been going wrong for some time. It is late news:
- power falling off, especially going uphill
- you notice the revs never reach where they once went
- fuel use going worse
- quietly, the stop/start bows out
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell inside
None of that is evidence on its own. With the light alongside them, the filter is a fair bet.
Why diesel particulate filters choke near Gwrhay
For a DPF, the least kind use is the type you find across a rural hamlet such as Gwrhay. None of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to the local primary school, Coal Yard Rise crawling at half eight, ten minutes to Asda, the hop to Gilfach Fargoed. The soot banks up rather than burning off.
Neither is a long way from Gwrhay: under 10 miles to the M4, under 15 miles to Newport. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the run that would empty a filter never comes.
The stage a DPF regeneration can no longer happen
What limp mode comes down to is the car protecting itself. Pulling power is capped, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter needs can no longer happen — which is the entire catch, because a proper drive works by setting off that regeneration.
So the common advice to get it up the motorway is good advice, right until it is not. The filter needs a clean rather than more driving once the car has gone into limp mode.
On-site DPF cleaning where the motor stands across Gwrhay
The filter does not leave it. That is the bit most drivers do not anticipate: the job takes place with the DPF even now bolted to the motor, on your front, in a work car park, any place the motor can stand for a few hours.
First a scan. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a weight, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the related components — all of it taken before anything is touched.
Then the cleaning. A solution is fed in through the access point on that vehicle and spreads inside the filter, loosening the soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never move. A second pass is sometimes called for on severely blocked filters.
What the clean has freed is then cleared by a regeneration. That is a monitored drive out of Gwrhay if you are along, or a static regeneration where the car waits, with the live data checked afterwards.
Both reports go over by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second diagnostic is what proves the change, clears the light and lists whatever is still outstanding.
What a DPF clean will not touch
Only one fault is answered by treatment: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- a pressure or temperature sensor showing a restriction that is not there
- the EGR valve held open
- the AdBlue system failing
- failed glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever runs
- turbo problems, with oil reaching the filter
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's job. Turning out to be one of them means learning it before any work begins, not after settling up a penny.
A couple more worth noting. Getting the filter gutted is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleaned in place and put back into use.
What DPF cleaning comes to around Gwrhay
A call-out charge holds whatever the outcome, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice given. Treatment itself opens from £299.
The price is fixed over the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be honest. The motor moves it, and so does the address — Gwrhay, Cwm-corrwg, or somewhere otherwise out in the NP postcode area.
You are not charged for a clean that the check says will not do it. What even so holds is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the diagnostic was done and the advice was given.
Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer comes back to Gwrhay.
Thomas was great, explained everything to me so I understood and got my car back on the road. Really informative and gave good advice.
Super company. Professional from the first phone call. Nic was friendly, professional and explained everything that was done. Responsive to emails and great aftercare. I would recommend.
Andras was very knowledgeable and professional in rectifying the problem with the DPF on my Range Rover Vouge Autobiography, which also involved replacing a throttle assembly.
What we clean, and how far we travel round Gwrhay
The one on-site service covers private cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is treated where it sits rather than moved anywhere.
The same run that puts technicians on Coal Yard Rise most weeks picks up Gwrhay, Cwm-corrwg, Cwm Gelli and the villages beyond Argoed. It is the calendar, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so call anyway from farther out across Caerphilly.
Gwrhay itself

Gwrhay is located near several other small communities, including Cwm-corrwg, Rock, and Oakdale, and is approximately 10.5 miles from Newport. Gwrhay has a population of around 445 people, predominantly living in detached houses.
Questions Gwrhay drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- Sometimes, if you spot it early and the motor has not dropped into limp mode. Fifteen minutes to Asda and back will not be enough; motorway speed, held for a stretch, will.
- Does the visit last long?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can require a second clean, which extends that.
- In Gwrhay, what does it come to?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the check and the advice. Settling it is done by phone, since what you own and where you sit both change the figure.
- Must I be there in person?
- You need not stand with it — the car just requires a spot to sit for a couple of hours. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be run as a watched drive instead.
- Can someone come to Gwrhay soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is free across the NP area.
- Does the filter come off the motor?
- Cleaned where it stands, on this service, so no. We will not lift filters off or put them back on, in either direction.
- Suppose the light returns?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer coming back to Gwrhay.
