Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Groundwell, Wiltshire
Sorting the DPF takes place at the vehicle, not at a body shop. Your vehicle will not be taken away and the filter doesn't budge. An engineer comes at your place across Groundwell, treats the diesel particulate filter on the motor and runs a DPF regeneration.
You'll know a figure by phone before anyone departs, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
If the light is already on and the car is short of power, this page is the right one. That is how most drivers end up here.
DPF light on? What happens next
First thing: it is not automatically the filter. Several faults put the same light on the identical dashboard, which is why a visit starts with a check rather than with a clean.
It tells what you do with the car between now and the booking.
- Worth a try before you ring anything: amber light, vehicle driving fine, just one constant run, no outlay.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, driving will not touch it. The window has gone.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under acceleration — stop booking long drives and get it checked.
What the vehicle has been telling you
By the time the light appears, things have normally been slipping for weeks. It is last news:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- you find the revs never reach where they once went
- fuel use getting worse
- the stop/start silently giving up
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
That is not evidence by itself. The light with them points at a loaded filter.
Clogged diesel particulate filters round Groundwell, and the cause
Being a residential suburb, Groundwell produces just the use a DPF copes with worst. Run through an ordinary week: Abbey Meads Community Primary School and home again, Thresher Drive at a standstill before nine, a five-minute run to Aldi, a hop to Swindon. Not much there lasts long enough or runs hot enough to see through a regeneration. Instead of burning away, the soot collects.
Neither is a long way from Groundwell: under 5 miles to the M4, under 25 miles to Oxford. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the run that would empty a filter simply never comes.
The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
Limp mode is the motor looking after itself. The real problem is that a long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not pull and power is capped.
So the common advice to get it up the motorway is good advice, right until it stops being. The far side of that point — limp mode — more driving will not manage it, and the filter needs treatment.
Where the car stands is where the DPF is treated round Groundwell
Nothing is taken from the vehicle. That surprises people. The DPF remains fitted where it is and the work happens around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, wherever it can stand for a couple of hours.
The ECU is taken first, giving soot load by proportion and by actual weight, along with a look over of sensors, glow plugs and connected hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never budge are freed next, by a cleaning fluid passed through the entry point on that motor, which opens out inside the filter. A second pass is sometimes called for on severely loaded filters.
Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has loosened. Ride along with the vehicle and it is done as a monitored drive out of Groundwell. Park it and the regeneration is done on the spot, with real-time data checked once it is done.
Both read-outs come through by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second diagnostic is what verifies the change, puts out the light and logs whatever is still showing.
When a DPF clean is not the answer
A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing a clean answers. It will not touch:
- pressure or temperature sensors flagging a restriction that is not there
- the EGR valve jammed open
- the AdBlue system playing up
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration starting whatsoever
- oil coming through the filter from a failing turbo
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's whole job. If one of those proves the fault, you find out about it up front rather than once the money has gone for good.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is replaced: the filter you have is cleaned where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it gutted a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth knowing.
The cost of DPF cleaning across Groundwell
Any visit carries a call-out charge — coming out to you, setting up the booking, carrying out the check and giving the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
The figure is agreed on the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be honest. Two things change it: what you run, and where you are — Groundwell itself, over at Hyde, or further out within the SN postcode area.
Treatment that will not work is not a clean you pay for, and the check is what says so. Because the visit, the check and the advice have happened, the call-out charge nonetheless holds.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer comes back to Groundwell.
Really pleased with the service which cleared the DPF block and warning light on dash of my Landrover. Saved me £2500!
Excellent service. Arrived on time and happily let my husband watch the process. Very helpful and explained everything. Not cheap but the difference in the car is amazing. Would recommend.
Timely fix, effective and affable. Engine amber warning light on again this morning but my local garage able to reset it. Just quite expensive. Thanks.
What we clean, and how far we travel near Groundwell
Whatever it is — car, light van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the one call-out service applies, and the filter never leaves it.
Technicians are along Thresher Drive most weeks, so Groundwell is seldom a special trip, and the same run covers Hyde, Abbey Meads and the villages out past Blunsdon St Andrew. Coverage runs UK-wide, so even further out around Wiltshire is still worth a phone call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

What Groundwell drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Can I simply take it for a long drive?
- If you get it in time, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. It wants a steady run at motorway speed, not ten minutes flat to Aldi and back.
- About how long does it last?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is severely clogged.
- Price in Groundwell — what is it?
- Treatment starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Quoting is done by phone, since what you own and where you are both shift the price.
- Have I have to be there?
- No. The motor wants space to wait for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. Travel along if you would rather, and the regeneration is done as a monitored drive.
- When can someone get to Groundwell?
- That comes down to the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is open across the SN area.
- Will the filter be taken off?
- It is done where it stands, on the call-out service. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- The light returns — then what?
- Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer coming back to Groundwell.
