Mobile DPF Cleaning around Greenhow and North Yorkshire

Cleaning the DPF happens at the car, not at a workshop. No workshop, no filter going anywhere. A fitter comes to your door in Greenhow, treats the diesel particulate filter in place, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.

The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean opens from £299, and the number is agreed on the phone before anyone travels.

If the light is already on and the motor is short of power, this page is the right one. That is how most drivers end up here.

The DPF light is on. What now?

The filter is not automatically what is at fault, and that goes first. Cleaning is not where a visit starts. A scan is — a number of faults appear as the same light.

The motoring you do in the meantime matters. That is the second thing.

  • Amber light, motor still driving fine — a long constant run can yet shift it on its own. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you book anything.
  • That window has closed once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode. A drive will not get there now.
  • Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under acceleration — stop booking long drives and get it looked at.

What the vehicle has been telling you

Belated news, the light. The symptoms tend to build for a while before it shows:

  • power dropping away, particularly pulling uphill
  • you see the revs stop short of where they once went
  • fuel use that is worse than it used to be
  • quietly, the stop/start gives up
  • smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in there

Any one of those, taken alone, is not evidence. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is full.

What blocks diesel particulate filters around Greenhow

The motoring that comes with a village like Greenhow is the poorest kind for a DPF. Think about an ordinary week: St Cuthbert's Church of England Primary School, Pateley Bridge and home, Duck Street Lane at a standstill before the hour, a five-minute run to The Dales Market Corner, a run to Ilkley. Not much there lasts long enough or is hot enough to complete a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should burn off builds up instead.

Neither is a long way from Greenhow: under 25 miles to the A1(M), under 15 miles to Ripon. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the journey that would clear a filter simply never happens.

Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration

What limp mode comes down to is the motor looking after itself. The entire catch is that a proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not pull and power is held down.

Sound advice, that motorway run — right up until the day it is not. The filter wants treatment rather than driving once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode.

The motor stays put for on-site DPF cleaning round Greenhow

The filter does not come off. That is the detail most drivers do not anticipate: the job takes place with the DPF yet bolted to the car, on your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the car can wait for a while.

Nothing is started until other faults are cleared. That requires a check first: running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by weight, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and connected hardware.

Then the cleaning. A solution goes in through the access point on that car and expands inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. A second pass is sometimes needed on badly clogged filters.

What the clean has loosened is then driven off by a regeneration. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Greenhow; if not, on the spot where the vehicle sits, with the live data verified afterwards.

Finally the scan runs again — the change confirmed, the light reset, anything still showing written down. Both reports come to you by email, so the numbers are kept.

Where treatment is not the fix

One thing is what cleaning cures — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • pressure or temperature sensors reporting a restriction that is not there
  • the EGR valve held open
  • the AdBlue system failing
  • worn glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever starts
  • a turbo pushing oil through the filter

That is what the first scan is for. If one of those is the fault, you learn of it in advance rather than once the money has left for good.

Gutting the filter out is not a solution: without a functioning DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the wording people type in, though nothing is swapped — your existing filter is treated in place and returned into use. Two more worth noting.

What DPF cleaning runs to across Greenhow

A clean opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.

Quoting a flat rate would not be honest. We fix it over phone, once the vehicle and its expected needs are established. Two things move it: what you drive, and where you are — Greenhow itself, over at Near Hardcastle, or farther out across the HG postcode area.

A clean that will not work is not treatment you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. You still pay that charge: someone turned up, did the diagnostic and gave you the advice.

Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer returns to Greenhow.

Where we reach near Greenhow, and what we clean

The filter is done on the vehicle on all of them: cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is taken anywhere.

Nearly every week there is by then someone on Duck Street Lane, so Greenhow rarely means a detour, and Near Hardcastle, Dry Gill and the spots past Bewerley follow. Even further out around North Yorkshire is still worth phoning about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that decides between this day and the next.

Things Greenhow drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough on its own?
It might, provided you catch it in time and limp mode has not set in. A long run at motorway speed is what it wants — not fifteen minutes to The Dales Market Corner and back.
The visit lasts how long?
It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily blocked filter can need a second clean, which adds to that.
The cost across Greenhow — what is it?
Starting from £299, with a charge for the call-out that takes in the scan and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both change the number, so we settle it on the phone.
Have I got to be present?
A spot for the vehicle to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a monitored drive instead.
Can someone come to Greenhow soon?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the schedule. One phone call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the HG area has open.
The filter — does it come away from the motor?
On the on-site service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. We never get filters off or bolt them back on, whichever way.
The light comes back — then what?
Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Greenhow.
