Mobile DPF Cleaning across Great Work, Cornwall

Treating the DPF takes place at the car, not at a garage. Your motor isn't taken anywhere and the filter will not budge. A fitter comes at your place over in Great Work, cleans the diesel particulate filter still on the motor and runs a DPF regeneration.

Nobody sets off until the figure is settled on the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.

Written for the position most drivers are in: the light on already, the vehicle short for power, and the job still to fix.

Your DPF light is showing — what next?

The unit is not necessarily what is to blame, and that leads. A clean is not where a visit starts. A scan is — several faults appear as the same warning.

It matters what you manage with the car between now and the booking.

  • Amber light, vehicle even now driving as normal — a long constant run can still sort it alone. Costs nothing at all, and worth a try before you ring anything.
  • Once the car is in limp mode, driving will not reach it. The window has closed.
  • Stop booking long drives and get it checked if the car stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you accelerate.

Before the light, what the vehicle was warning you

The light is late news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have normally been growing for some time:

  • power dropping away, above all pulling uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not rise like they did
  • fuel use that is worse than before
  • a stop/start that has quietly given up
  • the cabin stinking of diesel, or smoke when you pull away

None of that is conclusive by itself. Alongside the light alongside them, the filter is a fair guess.

What clogs diesel particulate filters around Great Work

For a DPF, the poorest driving is the type you find around a rural hamlet such as Great Work. Look at a normal week: Germoe Community Primary School and home again, Herland Park at a crawl before nine, a quick trip to Costcutter, a hop to St Erth. None of it there runs long enough or is hot enough to see through a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the soot collects.

The map does not help either. The M5 is over 50 miles from Great Work and Truro is under 25 miles away, so unless something pulls you out that way routinely, weeks pass without the long steady run that would empty the filter by itself.

Why limp mode blocks a DPF regeneration

Limp mode is the motor defending itself. The whole problem is that a sustained drive works by starting a regeneration, and under limp mode the revs will not rise and power is limited.

So the common advice to get it up the motorway is sensible advice, up until it stops being. In limp mode you are beyond that line: a clean is what will work, not more road work.

Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is done round Great Work

Nothing leaves the car. That throws people. The DPF sits bolted where it is and the work happens around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can wait for a couple of hours.

Nothing is touched until other faults are ruled out. That involves a scan first: running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by actual weight, and a look over of the sensors, glow plugs and associated parts.

Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never budge are loosened second, by a cleaning solution passed through the access point on that car, which spreads inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to take doing twice.

Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean freed. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Great Work; if not, in place where the vehicle waits, with the running data read afterwards.

Both reports come through by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second check is what verifies the change, clears the light and notes whatever is still showing.

Where cleaning is not the fix

A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning answers. It will not touch:

  • pressure sensors reporting a block that is not there
  • EGR valves that stick open
  • the AdBlue system going wrong
  • glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration running whatsoever
  • oil passing through the filter from a worn turbo

The first scan is there for just that. Turning out to be one of them means learning it before any work gets going, not after paying anything.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal, so that is no remedy. What gets typed in as DPF renewal replaces nothing: your own filter is cleared in place and goes back into work.

The figure of DPF cleaning around Great Work

Any visit carries a call-out charge — coming out to you, making the booking, carrying out the scan and passing on the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.

Once we have what you run, and broadly what the filter will want, the number gets agreed by phone. A single price for everyone would not be honest. Two things shift it: what you own, and where you are — Great Work itself, over at Herland Croft, or otherwise out in the TR postcode area.

Where the scan says a clean will not work, you are not billed for a clean. What even so holds is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the scan was carried out and the advice was given.

Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer comes back to Great Work.

Call-out DPF cleaning at a vehicle across Great Work

The technician who came to clean the dpf did a great job, the clean didn't cure the problem but did put me in the right direction with the issue. Would recommend but hopefully won't need them again. Vehicle was a MAN tgl 8/150.

David F.

Igor the engineer was informative and to the point and actually sorted the issue out. Experience from query to the actual job was great.

Nitin J.

Where we get to round Great Work, and what we clean

Private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, agricultural machinery — one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.

The same trip that puts technicians on Herland Park most weeks covers Great Work, Herland Croft, Tresowes Green and the places beyond Germoe. It is the schedule, not the distance, that decides whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so call still from even further out across Cornwall.

Questions Great Work drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive sort it?
Sometimes, if you spot it early enough and the motor has not slipped into limp mode. It wants a sustained run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes to Costcutter and back.
Broadly how long does it take?
Expect typically around 2 hours — heavily loaded filters sometimes need a second pass, which extends it.
What does it cost across Great Work?
Beginning from £299, with a charge for travelling that takes in the scan and advice on what to do next. The vehicle and your address both shift the figure, so we settle it on the phone.
Do I have to be there?
Nobody expects you to stand with it — the vehicle only requires space to sit for a couple of hours. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be done as a supervised drive instead.
When can someone travel to Great Work?
That comes down to the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and we will tell you what is available across the TR area.
Does the filter come away from the motor?
Cleaned where it sits, on this service, so no. Getting a filter off or putting one back on come to anything something we do either way.
Suppose the light comes back?
The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Great Work.
