Great Holm, Buckinghamshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. No garage, no filter coming off. An engineer drives out to your address over in Great Holm, clears the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you arrived with.
Reckon on the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, settled on the phone before anyone sets off.
If the light is showing and the car is low on power, this page is the right one. That is how most owners get to us.
DPF light on? What comes next
It may not be the unit in the end. That is the main thing. A number of faults put the identical light on the same dash, which is why a visit begins with a check rather than with treatment.
How the motor is driven in the meantime matters too.
- Worth a go before you book anything: amber light, car driving fine, just one even run, no charge.
- Car already fallen into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not reach it now.
- Stop arranging long drives and get it checked if the cabin smells of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
Before the light, what the vehicle was telling you
The light is belated news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have normally been mounting for weeks:
- falling off on power, above all uphill
- an engine whose revs will not pull as before
- the fuel economy is worse
- a stop/start that has quietly packed in
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in there
None of that is proof on its own. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair guess.
Blocked diesel particulate filters near Great Holm, and the cause
For a DPF, the worst motoring is the type you get in a residential suburb such as Great Holm. Look at a normal week: Holmwood School and back, Kensington Drive at a crawl before nine, a five-minute run to Central Oriental, a dash to Milton Keynes Central. None of it there goes on long enough or is hot enough to see through a regeneration. Soot that should clear banks up instead.
Neither is distant from Great Holm: under 5 miles to the M1, under 3 miles to Milton Keynes. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the run that would empty a filter never happens.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
The car is protecting itself, which is what limp mode means. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode blocks: power limited, revs kept low, no regeneration on offer.
Good advice, that motorway run — until the day it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that line: treatment is what will work, not more road work.
DPF cleaning at the car across Great Holm
Nothing comes off the car. That catches out people. The DPF stays bolted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, anywhere it can stand for a couple of hours.
Nothing is touched until other faults are cleared. That requires a diagnostic first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by actual weight, and a check of the sensor readings, glow plugs and connected hardware.
Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never move are freed next, by a cleaning fluid put through the access point on that motor, which expands inside the filter. Where the filter is badly clogged, expect a second pass.
What the clean has lifted is then driven off by a regeneration. Stay with the vehicle and it is done as a monitored drive out of Great Holm. Leave it and the regeneration goes statically, with real-time data checked once it is done.
Then a second check, verifying the change, resetting the warning light and logging anything still showing. Both sets of figures are sent over, so the before and after figures are recorded.
The problems a DPF clean cannot answer
Only one fault is cured by a clean: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- a pressure sensor showing a restriction that is not there
- EGR valves that stick open
- AdBlue system faults
- injectors or glow plugs that prevent a regeneration running whatsoever
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
That is what the first check is for. You are told before any work begins, not after you have handed over, should it turns out to be one of those.
Cutting the filter out is not a fix: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the term people search for, though nothing is exchanged — your existing filter is cleaned in place and put back into use. Two more worth knowing.
DPF cleaning costs around Great Holm
A call-out charge stands whatever happens, and covers the visit, the booking fee, the diagnostic and the advice offered. Treatment itself starts from £299.
The price is fixed over the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be honest. What you drive and where you are both change it: Great Holm itself, over at Bradwell Abbey, or farther out across the MK postcode area.
Cleaning that will not help is not a clean you pay for, and the scan is what says so. You even so pay that charge: someone turned up, did the diagnostic and offered you the advice.
Aftercare is covered by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer heads back to Great Holm.
Very happy with the service that was provided! Nic was efficient and knowledgeable. He seemed very honest and I am back motoring again after 75% blockage! Thank you!!
Great service from Nic. Arrived on time and dealt with the blocked DPF in my Mazda 6 2.2 diesel with ease. I received a clear report with advisories for my local garage to deal with, plus excellent advice to avoid further issues. Highly recommended.
I got my dpf cleaned today by daz great service very professional would definitely recommend this service to anyone.
The vehicles we clean and the area we take in near Great Holm
One on-site service takes in cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery and agricultural machinery, and on every one the filter is done where it sits rather than taken anywhere.
Our engineers are along Kensington Drive nearly every week, so Great Holm is rarely a special trip, and the same run covers Bradwell Abbey, Crownhill and the villages out past Whaddon. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so farther out through Buckinghamshire is even so worth a call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

Questions Great Holm drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough alone?
- Early enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it needs — not ten minutes flat to Central Oriental and back.
- Does the visit run long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly loaded filter can require cleaning twice, which adds time.
- What does it run to around Great Holm?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both shift the figure, so we quote on the phone.
- Do I have to be around?
- Space for the motor to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. The regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive if you would rather ride along.
- When can someone travel to Great Holm?
- Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is typical. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is free across the MK area.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Nor does taking a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
- The light reappears — then what?
- The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer returning to Great Holm.
