Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Great Elm, Somerset
The motor remains where it is — call-out DPF cleaning comes to it. No workshop, no filter going anywhere. A technician comes to your address over in Great Elm, treats the diesel particulate filter where it is, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
Nobody sets off until the figure is settled by the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
The light is on already and the car is short of power — that is how we generally come across people, and what this page covers.
DPF light on? What comes next
It might not be the filter whatsoever. That is the first thing. A number of faults put the very same light on the very same panel, which is why a visit begins with a scan rather than with a clean.
The driving you manage in the meantime counts. That is the other thing.
- Amber light, car yet driving normally — a long constant run can even now clear it on its own. Costs nothing at all, and worth trying before you book anything.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has now gone.
- Get it checked rather than driving it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
What the vehicle has been warning you
By the time the light appears, things have generally been going wrong for a while. It is belated news:
- power dropping away, especially climbing uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they always did
- fuel use going worse
- without a word, the stop/start packs in
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under acceleration
Alone, none of that is proof. With the light alongside them, the filter is a fair bet.
Blocked diesel particulate filters near Great Elm, and the cause
For a DPF, the poorest motoring is the kind you get around a village such as Great Elm. Run through a typical week: Trinity Church of England First School and home again, Elm Lane at a halt before half nine, a short hop to ABC Market, a dash to Frome. None of it there lasts long enough or is hot enough to finish a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should burn away collects instead.
Neither is a long way from Great Elm: under 25 miles to the M4, under 10 miles to Bath. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the drive that would empty a filter never happens.
Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration
What limp mode amounts to is the car defending itself. Power is held down, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter wants can never complete — which is the entire problem, because a sustained drive works by setting off that regeneration.
So the standard advice to take it up the motorway is good advice, right until the day it is not. Beyond that stage — limp mode — road work will not be enough, and the filter needs a clean.
Call-out DPF cleaning where the motor stands in Great Elm
The filter does not leave it. That is the bit most people do not see coming: the job happens with the DPF still fitted to the motor, on your drive, in a work car park, wherever the car can stand for a couple of hours.
The ECU is taken first, reporting soot load by percentage and by mass, along with a check of sensor feeds, glow plugs and related components, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still open.
Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never move are freed after that, by a cleaning solution put through the access port on that car, which opens out inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to require doing twice.
Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean lifted. Come with the vehicle and it turns into a monitored drive out of Great Elm. Park it and the regeneration goes on the spot, with real-time data checked once it is done.
A second scan confirms the change, puts out the warning light and notes anything still open. Both reports are emailed over, so you have the before and after figures recorded.
Where a clean is not the answer
Only one fault is fixed by treatment: the filter blocked with ash and soot. It does nothing for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, showing a block that is not real
- EGR valves that jam open
- AdBlue system faults
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration completing in the first place
- oil working through the filter from a worn turbo
Which is why the scan happens first. You are let know before any work starts, not after you have paid, should it turns out to be one of those.
Two more worth bearing in mind. Getting the filter hollowed out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes described as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is treated in place and sent back into use.
The price of DPF cleaning in Great Elm
The cleaning starts from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that follows.
No single flat rate would be honest, so the price is settled over the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. What you run and where you are both shift it: Great Elm itself, out at Hapsford, or further out across the BA postcode area.
You are not charged for treatment that the check says will not do it. What nonetheless stands is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the diagnostic was carried out and the advice was offered.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer comes back to Great Elm.
Great prompt service. Fixed my issue within the hour. Yes expensive at £458 but I was on the road and my van running again. Value for money.
Igor was very professional in both his manner and how he successfully carried out the treatment-I've got my Car back!!
Lad who came out to me at home was friendly talked me through everything did a diagnostics test and advised on a new sensor for dpf everything at the minute seems fine and van drives so much better without any faults.
Where we travel around Great Elm, and what we clean
The filter is done in place on all of them: cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is moved anywhere.
Engineers are along Elm Lane most weeks, so Great Elm is rarely a special trip, and the same run takes in Hapsford, Lower Whatley and the villages out past Buckland Dinham. Further out across Somerset is still worth phoning about — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that picks between one day and the next.

What Great Elm drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run sort it?
- If you spot it early, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. A long run at motorway speed is what it takes — not five minutes or so to ABC Market and back.
- Does the visit take long?
- Expect typically around 2 hours — heavily clogged filters sometimes take a second pass, which lengthens it.
- What does it come to in Great Elm?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the scan and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are shift it, which is why pricing is done by phone.
- Must I be around in person?
- No. The motor wants somewhere to stand for a couple of hours; you need not stand with it. Choosing to be there is fine: the regeneration then goes out on the open road, monitored.
- Getting to Great Elm — how soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the calendar. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the BA area.
- Is the filter lifted off the motor?
- On the call-out service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Nor does getting a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
- And if the light returns?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Great Elm.
