Glenegedale, Argyll and Bute: Mobile DPF Cleaning

The car sits in place — mobile DPF cleaning travels to it. A fitter arrives at your place over in Glenegedale, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the vehicle, runs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.

Nobody travels until the price is agreed by the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.

Most drivers find us with the light showing, and the motor low on power. That is the situation this page is written for.

Your DPF light is on — what now?

It may not be the DPF at all. That is the first thing. A check happens before any treatment, because that same panel light has a number of candidate faults behind it.

It matters what you do with the motor between now and the appointment.

  • A long even run may even now be enough, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes as normal. Costs zero, so attempt that before booking.
  • Vehicle already dropped into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not touch it now.
  • Get it checked rather than running it — diesel in the car, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.

Before the light, what the vehicle was showing you

Symptoms have usually been growing for some time before the light even appears. Last news, in other words:

  • climbing uphill, the power drops away
  • the revs no longer climb the way they always did
  • fuel economy going worse
  • silently, the stop/start bows out
  • a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under hard acceleration

None of that is proof on its own. Alongside the light with them, the filter is a fair bet.

Why diesel particulate filters block round Glenegedale

For a DPF, the worst use is the sort you find in a coastal area such as Glenegedale. Think about an ordinary week: the local primary school and home, High Road at a halt before nine, a short hop to The Co-operative Food, a dash to the nearest station. None of it there runs long enough or is hot enough to complete a regeneration. What should clear remains.

Unless you have a routine need to drive out to the M8, over 50 miles from Glenegedale, or over to Derry over 50 miles away, whole weeks pass without a long steady stint. Geography is unhelpful.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops

It is self-defence: that is all limp mode is. Output is limited, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter requires can never run — which is the real catch, because a long drive works by setting off that regeneration.

The standard advice — get it up the motorway — is sensible, until it is not. The far side of that stage — limp mode — road work will not manage it, and the filter requires a clean.

Cleaning a clogged diesel particulate filter in Glenegedale, Argyll and Bute

Where the car stands is where the DPF is treated round Glenegedale

On your drive, in a work car park, wherever the car can stand for a while: the job happens with the filter yet bolted on, which is the bit most people do not anticipate.

First a check. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a weight, the sensors, the glow plugs, the associated hardware — all of it logged before anything is touched.

Soot and ash that a regeneration on its own will never budge are lifted next, by a solution fed through the access port on that motor, which spreads inside the filter. Where the filter is severely loaded, plan on a second pass.

A regeneration comes next, burning off what the clean has freed. That is a monitored drive out of Glenegedale if you are along, or a static regeneration where the motor sits, with the running data checked once done.

A second check verifies the change, clears the warning light and lists anything still outstanding. Both reports are emailed, so you keep the before and after figures recorded.

Where cleaning is not the solution

Treatment answers one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • temperature or pressure sensors showing a blockage that is not there
  • a failed EGR valve
  • a fault in the AdBlue system
  • faulty glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever completes
  • a turbo putting oil through the filter

That is what the first check is for. Where it turns out to be one of those, you are let know before any work starts rather than after you have handed over for it.

Gutting the filter out is not a fix: without a functioning DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence. DPF renewal is the term people search for, though nothing is exchanged — your original filter is cleared in place and returned into use. Two more worth noting.

DPF cleaning charges around Glenegedale

A clean starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the checks and the advice.

No flat rate would be honest, so the number is agreed on the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. A pair of things move it: what you run, and where you are — Glenegedale itself, out at Imeraval, or otherwise out in the PA postcode area.

If the check rules a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. What nonetheless holds is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the scan was done and the advice was passed on.

A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Glenegedale if the light returns inside the time.

A vehicle having its DPF cleaned across Glenegedale

Engineer was very informative and polite, my car was fixed and I can only assume it will be ok in the future. Good service from this company.

David O.

Had a lad called daz come out to blocked dpf on a fiat 500 diagnostic check and clean explained from start to finish the faults excellent job and showed what caused the problem and what I need to replace to stop future problems.

Dean L.

Good service! They cleaned up my DPF and fault diagnosed 2 other issues. I went and ordered a new glow plug relay and air mass sensor. Replaced on arrival. cleared the faults with an OBD and voila! All lights out and my van now runs like a stallion! Happy days.

Mark B.

The vehicles we clean and the ground we reach near Glenegedale

Cars, panel vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, agricultural machinery — the one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned in place rather than taken anywhere.

Glenegedale is hardly ever a special trip: our engineers are along High Road nearly every week, and the same run takes in Imeraval, Mulindry and the places out past Port Ellen. It is the calendar, not the distance, that settles whether it is this day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so call even from further out through Argyll and Bute.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning around Glenegedale

Will a long drive sort it?
It may, provided you get it in time and limp mode has not set in. That calls for motorway speed for a steady stretch, rather than a short trip to The Co-operative Food.
The visit takes how long?
Allow typically around 2 hours — heavily clogged filters sometimes need a second pass, which lengthens it.
Around Glenegedale, what does it run to?
A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both move the figure, so we price on the phone.
Have I have to be around?
A spot for the motor to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is wanted. Not you. The regeneration can be carried out as a monitored drive if you would prefer to come along.
When can someone come to Glenegedale?
You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is free across the PA area.
Will the filter be lifted off?
Cleaned where it stands, on this service, so no. Nor does getting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
What if the light comes back?
The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer heading back to Glenegedale.
