Glantlees, Northumberland: Mobile DPF Cleaning
The vehicle stays put — call-out DPF cleaning comes to it. The technician turns up at your door over in Glantlees and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleared fitted to the car, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you end up with the filter you came with.
Nobody travels until the figure is agreed over the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
The light is showing and the car is down on power — that is how we usually come across people, and roughly what this page covers.
DPF light on? What to do
Not the unit, always. First thing to get straight. Cleaning is not where a visit opens. A check is — plenty of faults register as the same warning.
It counts what you do with the vehicle between now and the booking.
- Amber light, car yet driving fine — a long even run can still shift it on its own. Costs nothing, and worth a try before you call anything.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has by then gone.
- Get it looked at rather than using it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
Before the light, what the motor was telling you
Belated news, the light. The symptoms tend to build for some time before it arrives:
- pulling uphill, the power tails off
- an engine whose revs will not pull like they did
- fuel consumption getting worse
- a stop/start that has silently bowed out
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car
Any one of those, taken alone, is not conclusive. Next to the light beside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
Why diesel particulate filters clog around Glantlees
For a DPF, the least kind motoring is the sort you get around a small village such as Glantlees. The school run to Swarland Primary School, Alnwick Fords at a halt at the morning rush, five minutes to Turnbull's Northumbrian Foodhall, the run to Acklington — nothing of it runs long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. Instead of burning off, the soot collects.
Where you sit does not help either. The A167(M) is under 50 miles from Glantlees and Newcastle upon Tyne is under 50 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way routinely, entire weeks pass without the long unbroken run that could scour the filter on its own.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops working
What limp mode means is the vehicle looking after itself. With power capped and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter wants will not happen at all. That tells, because triggering one is precisely what a sustained run does.
The standard advice — take it up the motorway — is sensible, right until it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that line: treatment is what will do it, not more driving.
The car stays in place for on-site DPF cleaning in Glantlees
On your drive, in a work car park, anywhere the car can sit for a few hours: the job takes place with the filter still fitted on, which is the detail most drivers do not anticipate.
The ECU is read first, reporting soot load by proportion and by weight, along with a check of sensor feeds, glow plugs and related hardware, so nothing is touched while another fault is still possible.
A cleaning fluid then is injected through the access point on that vehicle, spreading inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration alone will never shift. Sometimes a filter is loaded enough to require doing twice.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean freed. Stay with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of Glantlees. Park it and the regeneration goes statically, with running data verified once it is done.
A second diagnostic confirms the change, clears the warning light and notes anything still open. Both reports are sent over, so you have the before and after figures recorded.
Where cleaning is not the solution
Cleaning answers one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- a pressure sensor showing a restriction that is not there
- an EGR valve jammed open
- an AdBlue system problem
- a regeneration that never runs, because of glow plugs or injectors
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
Which is why the check comes first. Where it proves to be one of those, you are let know before any work begins rather than after you have handed over for it.
Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter gutted fails its MOT, and driving it is against the law, so that is no fix. What gets typed in as DPF renewal exchanges nothing: your existing filter is cleaned in place and goes back into use.
The cost of DPF cleaning around Glantlees
A call-out charge applies whatever follows, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice given. Treatment itself opens from £299.
The figure is settled on the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be honest. The place you are tells as much as what you own: Glantlees itself, Swarland next door, or farther out within the NE postcode area.
If the scan rules treatment out, there is nothing to pay for it. The call-out charge even so stands, because the visit, the check and the advice have taken place.
A 30-day warranty takes in aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Glantlees if the light reappears inside the time.
Outstanding customer service provided by Liam. The communication was exceptional, and I was consistently updated on all aspects, including the estimated time of arrival (ETA). Liam successfully resolved the PDF issue, and I am very satisfied with his work. I would highly recommend his services for PDF-related tasks.
Really helpful, told me why the filter had blocked in the first place and managed to clean it out fully.
Dan and trainee Sam came along sorted out the car, got it from trapped on the drive to back on the road in under 1hr and 30 mins. Also highlighted some issues that needed fixing unrelated to the initial problem and gave some after care advice!
Where we reach around Glantlees, and what we clean
The filter is done in place on all of them: private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is carried anywhere.
The same run that keeps our engineers on Alnwick Fords most weeks covers Glantlees, Swarland, North End and the spots beyond Newton on the Moor. Even further out through Northumberland is nonetheless worth phoning about — coverage runs UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that settles between this day and the next.

Things Glantlees drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- It may, provided you catch it early enough and limp mode has not arrived. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it wants — not ten minutes flat to Turnbull's Northumbrian Foodhall and back.
- How long does the visit last?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily clogged filter can take cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- Price in Glantlees — what is it?
- The call-out charge pays for the visit, the diagnostic and the advice; cleaning itself opens from £299. The vehicle and your address both shift the price, so we price on the phone.
- Is it essential for me to be there?
- Nobody expects you to stand with it — the vehicle only needs space to stand for a couple of hours. The regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive if you would rather ride along.
- When can someone travel to Glantlees?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the diary. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the NE area has available.
- Will the filter be lifted off?
- Not on the on-site service — it is cleaned where it stands. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
- The light comes back — then what?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer returning to Glantlees.
