Before the light, what the motor was showing you
Symptoms have generally been building for weeks before the light even appears. Belated news, in other words:
- climbing uphill, the power tails off
- the revs no longer pull the way they used to
- worse fuel consumption
- without a word, the stop/start gives up
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not conclusive. With the light, it is a fair guess the filter is blocked.
