Gabber, Devon: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Call-out DPF cleaning travels to the vehicle. Your vehicle will not be taken off and the filter will not come off. A technician comes at your place in Gabber, cleans the diesel particulate filter on the vehicle and runs a DPF regeneration.
Allow for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean begins from £299, settled over the phone before anyone sets off.
Most people find us with the light on already, and the vehicle short of power. That is the situation this page is aimed at.
The DPF light is on. What then?
It could not be the unit at all. That is the first thing. Treatment is not where a visit begins. A diagnostic is — a number of faults show up as the same warning.
How the motor is handled in the meantime matters too.
- Motor even now driving as normal on an amber light — try a long steady run first. It costs zero and often shifts the filter without help.
- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has now closed.
- Get it seen to rather than driving it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.
The motor has been showing you already
By the time the light arrives, things have normally been slipping for some time. It is belated news:
- power dropping away, particularly pulling uphill
- an engine whose revs will not pull as before
- fuel use that is worse than it used to be
- silently, the stop/start bows out
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gears
That is not proof by itself. It is a fair assumption the filter is full once the light is there too.
What blocks diesel particulate filters round Gabber
The driving that goes with a rural hamlet like Gabber is the worst sort for a DPF. Look at a normal week: Wembury Primary School and home, Gabber Lane at a crawl before nine, a quick trip to Hooe Mini Market, a run to Plymouth. Nothing there goes on long enough or is hot enough to finish a regeneration. Soot that should burn off collects instead.
The M5 stands under 50 miles from Gabber, Plymouth under 5 miles away, and unless something carries you out that way routinely, entire weeks slip past without the long steady run that scours a DPF. Geography does not help.
The point a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
Limp mode is the motor defending itself. Pulling power is limited, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter wants can not happen — which is the real catch, because a proper drive works by triggering that regeneration.
So the usual advice to get it up the motorway is sound advice, until it stops being. In limp mode you are beyond that line: cleaning is what will work, not more driving.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the vehicle stands round Gabber
Nothing is taken from the vehicle. That throws people. The DPF sits fixed where it is and the work is done around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can sit for a couple of hours.
Nothing is cleaned until other faults are eliminated. That involves a diagnostic first: running data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and connected parts.
Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never shift are loosened after that, by a solution passed through the entry point on that motor, which opens out inside the filter. Severely blocked filters sometimes need a second pass.
Then a regeneration, to clear what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Gabber; if not, on the spot where the vehicle waits, with the real-time data checked afterwards.
Both read-outs are sent by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second check is what proves the change, clears the light and logs whatever is still outstanding.
What a DPF clean will not fix
One thing is what a clean answers — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:
- sensors, pressure or temperature, reporting a block that is not real
- EGR valves that hang open
- AdBlue system failures
- a regeneration that never completes, because of glow plugs or injectors
- turbo problems, with oil reaching the filter
Which is why the check goes first. You are warned before any work starts, not after you have handed over, where it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is swapped: the filter you already own is cleared where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it hollowed out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth noting.
What DPF cleaning comes to across Gabber
The treatment begins from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that comes with it.
The number is agreed over the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be straight. Where you are counts as much as what you run: Gabber itself, Heybrook Bay nearby, or otherwise out in the PL postcode area.
If the check counts a clean out, there is nothing to pay for it. Because the visit, the scan and the advice have been done, the call-out charge even so stands.
If the light comes back inside that time, an engineer comes back out to Gabber — the job comes with a 30-day warranty including aftercare.
Excellent same-day service. Baz, the technician, was very helpful. My van was not drivable. He cleaned the DPF and also fixed the underlying issue that caused it to block in the first place. I'm very happy with the service and can highly recommend DPF Fixer.
I had Kieran unblock my DPF today, can't fault him. He called me before he arrived to let me know he was on his way, explained everything to me before and after!
Great experience with DPF. We got an appointment next day and the customer service was great all the way through. Whilst I hope I don't have to use them again, I would recommend to anyone!
What we clean, and how far we reach around Gabber
Cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles — one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated in place rather than moved anywhere.
Engineers are along Gabber Lane most weeks, so Gabber is hardly ever a special trip, and the same run takes in Heybrook Bay, Staddiscombe and the places out past Down Thomas. Phone anyway from further out around Devon. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the day you are given comes down to the schedule rather than how far away you are.

Common questions on DPF cleaning across Gabber
- Does a long run sort it?
- If you get it in time, and the vehicle is not in limp mode, sometimes. Five minutes to Hooe Mini Market and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for some time, will.
- Does the visit take long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely blocked filter can require cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- Around Gabber, what does it come to?
- A clean begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both change the figure, so we price on the phone.
- Have I have to be present?
- The vehicle wants a place for two hours or so. You need not be in it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be run as a monitored drive instead.
- How soon can someone come to Gabber?
- That depends on the diary, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is free across the PL area.
- Does the filter come away from the car?
- It is treated where it is, on the mobile service. Lifting a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything a job we do in either direction.
- And if the light returns?
- An engineer travels back out to Gabber — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
