Furnace, Ceredigion: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we travel to the car. An engineer comes at your place in Furnace, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the vehicle, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.
Allow for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, settled by the phone before anyone leaves.
The light is on already and the vehicle is short of power — that is how we normally come across people, and what this page is about.
The DPF light is on. What then?
It could not be the filter at all. That is the first thing. A clean is not where a visit opens. A scan is — several faults show up as the same light.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then makes a difference.
- Amber light, car still driving normally — a long even run can yet shift it on its own. Costs nothing, and worth a try before you ring anything.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has now closed.
- Get it checked rather than driving it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone past the long-run stage.
Before the light, what the motor was warning you
By the time the light appears, things have usually been going wrong for weeks. It is belated news:
- power dropping away, above all pulling uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they once did
- worse fuel economy
- the stop/start silently giving up
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in there
On its own, none of that is proof. The light beside them indicates a full filter.
Why diesel particulate filters block near Furnace
The day-to-day driving that goes with a coastal village like Furnace is the worst type for a DPF. Run through an ordinary week: the local primary school and home, A487 at a standstill before half nine, a quick trip to The Co-operative Food, a dash to Dovey Junction. None of it there runs long enough or gets hot enough to finish a regeneration. Instead of burning away, the soot load builds up.
Where you sit does not oblige either. The M4 is over 50 miles from Furnace and Bangor is under 50 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way often, entire weeks go by without the long unbroken run that would clear the filter on its own.
The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
Limp mode is the car defending itself. Power is held down, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter wants can no longer run — which is the real catch, because a long drive works by triggering that regeneration.
Sound advice, that motorway run — right up until the moment it is not. Past that point — limp mode — road work will not be enough, and the filter requires a clean.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is done round Furnace
Nothing is taken from the car. That catches out people. The DPF stays fitted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can stand for a few hours.
Nothing is started until other faults are cleared. That involves a scan first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and connected components.
A solution next is injected through the access point on that car, opening out inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never budge. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to require doing twice.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has lifted. That is a monitored drive out of Furnace if you are present, or a static regeneration where the vehicle sits, with the real-time data checked after.
Finally the diagnostic runs again — the change verified, the light put out, anything still outstanding noted. Both read-outs reach you by email, so the numbers are kept.
What a DPF clean will not touch
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing treatment answers. It will not touch:
- the wrong signal from a temperature or pressure sensor
- an EGR valve jammed open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration starting whatsoever
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
Finding that out is the first scan's job. If one of those proves the fault, you find out about it in advance rather than once the money has left for good.
Two more worth knowing. Having the filter gutted is not a solution — a vehicle without a working DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your own filter is cleared in place and returned into use.
DPF cleaning charges around Furnace
The cleaning begins from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that goes with it.
No single flat rate would be straight, so the figure is settled by the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. The car moves it, and so does the location — Furnace, Coed y Garth, or somewhere farther out in the SY postcode area.
If the scan writes treatment out, there is not a penny to pay for it. You even so pay that charge: someone turned up, did the diagnostic and gave you the advice.
If the light returns inside that period, an engineer heads back out to Furnace — the job carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare.
From the first call until I got my key back DPF and Fixer fixed everything easy to book fantastic customer services quick response times most probably saved me thousands. Thank you.
Outstanding customer service provided by Liam. The communication was exceptional, and I was consistently updated on all aspects, including the estimated time of arrival (ETA). Liam successfully resolved the PDF issue, and I am very satisfied with his work. I would highly recommend his services for PDF-related tasks.
Andras was very knowledgeable and professional in rectifying the problem with the DPF on my Range Rover Vouge Autobiography, which also involved replacing a throttle assembly.
The vehicles we clean and the patch we cover around Furnace
Private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant and construction machinery, farm vehicles — one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.
Furnace is rarely a special trip: engineers are working A487 week in week out, and the same run takes in Coed y Garth, Pant Eidal and the spots out past Eglwys Fach. It is the schedule, not the distance, that picks whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so call anyway from further out across Ceredigion.

Things Furnace drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough on its own?
- If you spot it early, and the car is not in limp mode, sometimes. Five minutes to The Co-operative Food and back will not be enough; motorway speed, kept for a while, will.
- About how long does it take?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A heavily loaded filter can need a second clean, which adds to that.
- How much does it cost in Furnace?
- It starts from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the check and the advice. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the number.
- Have I have to be there?
- Somewhere for the motor to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. Ride along if you prefer, and the regeneration becomes a monitored drive.
- Can someone travel to Furnace soon?
- That comes down to the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the SY area has free.
- Does the filter come off the vehicle?
- It is cleaned where it stands, on the call-out service. Nor does taking a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
- What if the light returns?
- An engineer comes back out to Furnace — the 30-day warranty covers aftercare.
