Mobile DPF Cleaning in Furnace, Carmarthenshire

Treating the DPF happens at the car, not at a garage. A technician turns up at your door across Furnace, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the car, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you started with.

Nobody leaves until the price is settled over the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.

The light is already on and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we usually come across people, and roughly what this page is about.

The DPF light is on. What next?

The filter is not always what is at fault, and that goes first. That light can arise from several faults, not merely one, so the visit begins with a diagnostic and not with cleaning.

The driving you do in the meantime counts. That is the other thing.

  • Motor yet driving as normal on an amber light — attempt a long steady run first. It costs zero and regularly shifts the filter without a visit.
  • Motor already dropped into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not shift it now.
  • Get it seen to rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.

The car has been warning you already

Belated news, the light. The symptoms usually mount for weeks before it shows:

  • pulling uphill, the power falls off
  • you see the revs fall short of where they used to go
  • worse fuel use
  • stop/start silently giving up
  • the car stinking of diesel, or smoke when you accelerate

That is not conclusive alone. Next to the light, it is a fair guess the filter is full.

Why diesel particulate filters block around Furnace

For a DPF, the worst motoring is the type you meet around a residential suburb such as Furnace. The school run to the local primary school, Dwynant at a standstill at half eight, a few minutes to The Co-operative Food, the hop to Pembrey & Burry Port — nothing of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the soot builds up.

Geography does not assist either. The M4 is under 10 miles from Furnace and Swansea is under 15 miles away, so unless something carries you out that way often, entire weeks slip past without the long steady run that could scour the filter by itself.

DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode stops it

The motor is protecting itself, which is what limp mode is. Power is limited, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter needs can never complete — which is the entire problem, because a proper drive works by triggering that regeneration.

The standard advice — take it up the motorway — is sound, until it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that line: treatment is what will help, not more miles.

DPF cleaning at the vehicle round Furnace

On your front, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can sit for a few hours: the job is done with the filter yet fixed on, which is the detail most owners do not see coming.

First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the related hardware — all of it taken before a thing is cleaned.

Soot and ash that a regeneration by itself will never budge are freed next, by a cleaning fluid fed through the access point on that car, which spreads inside the filter. Badly clogged filters sometimes take a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has lifted. That is a monitored drive out of Furnace if you are present, or a static regeneration where the motor stands, with the running data checked afterwards.

Both sets of figures come through by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second check is what verifies the change, clears the light and lists whatever is still showing.

What a DPF clean will not cure

Treatment cures one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • temperature or pressure sensors flagging a blockage that is not there
  • the EGR valve jammed open
  • a fault in the AdBlue system
  • worn glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
  • oil passing through the filter from a faulty turbo

That is what the first diagnostic is for. If one of those is the fault, you find out about it at the outset rather than once the money has left altogether.

Lastly, two things. A vehicle with the filter cut out will fail its MOT, and driving it is an offence, so that is no fix. What gets typed in as DPF renewal swaps nothing: your own filter is cleared in place and goes back into service.

Prices for DPF cleaning around Furnace

Any visit takes a call-out charge — travelling to you, making the booking, carrying out the diagnostic and offering the advice. The clean itself begins from £299.

Quoting a flat rate would not be honest. We fix it over phone, once the vehicle and its probable needs are clear. Two things move it: what you run, and where you are — Furnace itself, across at Burry Port, or farther out across the SA postcode area.

If the scan counts treatment out, there is not a penny to pay for it. Because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have taken place, the call-out charge even so applies.

A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Furnace if the light comes back inside the time.

On-site DPF cleaning at a vehicle across Furnace

Recently had the DPF cleaned by Liam. Good communication throughout, and he clearly answered all questions. The van is now up and running nicely.

Chris C.

I had a DPF related emergency on Wednesday morning, by lunchtime it was sorted. The technician was knowledgeable, professional and personable. The DPF filter was cleaned, faults cleared, and the car drove brilliantly afterwards. Many thanks.

Alexander H.

Dan was fabulous and courteous. He did mention before the clean that the DPF was nearly empty and it was up to me still go ahead with the clean. The clean was performed and the number did improve. Great advice and prompt service. Highly recommended.

Vehicles we clean, and where we travel round Furnace

One mobile service covers private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is cleaned on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.

Our engineers are along Dwynant week in week out, so Furnace is hardly ever a detour, and the same run picks up Burry Port, Pembrey and the places out past Waun y Clyn. Ring anyway from farther out through Carmarthenshire. Coverage extends UK-wide, and the slot you are offered comes down to the diary rather than how far away you are.

Things Furnace drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Will a long drive clear it?
Quickly enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. That means motorway speed for a steady run, rather than a brief trip to The Co-operative Food.
The visit lasts how long?
That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly blocked filter can need cleaning twice, which adds time.
The cost across Furnace — what is it?
A clean starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both shift the number, so we quote on the phone.
Must I be present in person?
The vehicle needs a place for two hours or so. Nobody expects you to be in it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be done as a supervised drive instead.
Can someone travel to Furnace soon?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the diary. Phone 0303 330 1830 and we will let you what is open across the SA area.
The filter — does it come off the vehicle?
It is done where it stands, on the on-site service. We do not take filters off or bolt them back on, whichever way.
And if the light reappears?
An engineer comes back out to Furnace — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
