What the car has been warning you
By the time the light appears, things have normally been deteriorating for some time. It is belated news:
- pulling uphill, the power tails off
- the revs no longer rise the way they always did
- the fuel consumption is worse
- the stop/start silently bowing out
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the box
None of that is proof by itself. The light beside them suggests a loaded filter.
The cause diesel particulate filters clog round Frith
