Before the light, what the vehicle was telling you
The light is last news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have generally been mounting for some time:
- power tailing off, especially pulling uphill
- the revs no longer rise the way they used to
- fuel use that is worse than before
- stop/start quietly bowing out
- a diesel smell in the interior, or smoke under acceleration
None of that is evidence alone. Next to the light, it is a fair bet the filter is loaded.
Why diesel particulate filters choke around Fraddon
For a DPF, the worst driving is the kind you get around a rural village such as Fraddon. Run through an ordinary week: Indian Queens Primary School and home again, Chapel Road at a crawl before the hour, a short hop to The Co-operative Food, a run to St Columb Road.
