Foxholes, North Yorkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With on-site DPF cleaning, we come to the motor. The fitter arrives at your place over in Foxholes and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is treated still on the car, a DPF regeneration comes next, and you end up with the filter you came with.
You'll know a figure by phone before anyone goes, the clean opening from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
Written for the situation most drivers are in: the light on already, the vehicle short for power, and the job still to fix.
DPF light on? What comes next
The unit is not automatically what is to blame, and that leads. Treatment is not where a visit opens. A scan is — a number of faults appear as the same signal.
Second thing: how you drive it between now and then counts.
- Worth a try before you ring anything: amber light, car driving as normal, just one even run, no outlay.
- Motor already gone into limp mode — that window has shut. A drive will not touch it now.
- Get it looked at rather than driving it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
Before the light, what the car was warning you
Belated news, the light. The symptoms usually grow for weeks before it arrives:
- tailing off on power, particularly uphill
- you notice the revs stop short of where they used to go
- worse fuel economy
- stop/start without a word packing in
- smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
That is not evidence alone. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is on as well.
What chokes diesel particulate filters around Foxholes
Foxholes is a village, and the driving that goes with one is the worst kind for a DPF. A regeneration needs the time and heat, and gets not much: not on the school run to Wold Newton Foundation School, not on The Meadows at half past eight, not on five minutes to Proudfoot eco Store, and not on the run to Hunmanby. Instead of burning off, the soot load builds up.
Save when you have a routine cause to get out to the Petuaria Way, under 50 miles from Foxholes, or across to Kingston upon Hull under 50 miles away, whole weeks slip past without a long steady drive. Geography is no help.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
The car is looking after itself, which is what limp mode means. A sustained drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode blocks: power held down, revs kept low, no regeneration on offer.
So the common advice to take it up the motorway is sound advice, until it stops being. The filter requires treatment rather than more driving once the vehicle has slipped into limp mode.
The vehicle stays put for call-out DPF cleaning round Foxholes
The filter does not come off. That is the bit most drivers do not see coming: the job takes place with the DPF even now bolted to the car, on your front, in a work car park, any place the car can wait for a couple of hours.
First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a weight, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the connected components — all of it taken before any of it is touched.
A solution then is injected through the access port on that motor, spreading inside the filter to lift soot and ash a regeneration by itself will never shift. Severely blocked filters sometimes require a second pass.
Next, a regeneration burns off everything the clean freed. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Foxholes; if not, in place where the vehicle waits, with the real-time data read afterwards.
Both sets of figures go over by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second scan is what confirms the change, puts out the light and notes whatever is still showing.
The failures a DPF clean cannot answer
A filter blocked with soot and ash is the one thing cleaning cures. It will not touch:
- the wrong figure from a temperature sensor
- an EGR valve stuck open
- an AdBlue system fault
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration running in the first place
- oil passing through the filter from a worn turbo
Which is why the check comes first. If one of those proves the fault, you hear about it in advance rather than once the money has left for good.
Two more worth bearing in mind. Getting the filter hollowed out is not a solution — a vehicle without a working DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleaned in place and returned into use.
DPF cleaning prices around Foxholes
A clean starts from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
Once we are told what you own, and broadly what the filter will want, the figure gets settled over phone. A single price for all would not be honest. What you drive and where you are both shift it: Foxholes itself, over at Wold Newton, or further out across the YO postcode area.
You are not charged for treatment that the scan says will not work. The call-out charge still applies, because the visit, the check and the advice have taken place.
If the light comes back inside that window, an engineer comes back out to Foxholes — the job comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
The two who came to fix my car were absolutely wonderful. They did a first class job were friendly and spoke to about what they were going to do. First class.
Darren came on Friday 19th September to clean DPF on my vivaro done 400 miles now and running fine.
The guys diagnosed my problem and gave advice on what next needed to be done. I followed their advice and the car is now running perfectly.
Vehicles we clean, and where we reach near Foxholes
The filter is cleaned in place on all of them: cars, vans of any size and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, agricultural machinery. Nothing is carried anywhere.
Our engineers are along The Meadows nearly every week, so Foxholes is rarely a special trip, and the same run picks up Wold Newton, Thwing and the villages out past Weaverthorpe. Phone anyway from farther out across North Yorkshire. Coverage runs UK-wide, and the slot you get hangs on the diary rather than how far away you are.
Foxholes itself

Foxholes is located in a rural area, with the city of Kingston upon Hull being the nearest major urban centre.
Things Foxholes drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Does a long run clear it?
- It may, provided you catch it early and limp mode has not arrived. A steady run at motorway speed is what it needs — not ten minutes flat to Proudfoot eco Store and back.
- Does the visit take long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a severely blocked filter can require cleaning twice, which adds time.
- What does it come to across Foxholes?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the check and the advice. The vehicle and your address both change the number, so we price on the phone.
- Do I have to be present?
- You need not stand with it — the car simply needs somewhere to sit for a couple of hours. Ride along if you like, and the regeneration turns into a monitored drive.
- How soon can someone get to Foxholes?
- You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the diary. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is open across the YO area.
- Does the filter come off the car?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Getting a filter off or fitting one back on amount to anything a job we do in either direction.
- And if the light reappears?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer heading back to Foxholes.
