Foul Mile, East Sussex: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With call-out DPF cleaning, we come to the motor. An engineer arrives at your door in Foul Mile, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the car, runs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you arrived with.
Allow for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean starts from £299, fixed over the phone before anyone leaves.
Written for the situation most owners are in: the light showing, the motor short for power, and the job still to book.
Your DPF light is on — what then?
First thing: it is not necessarily the filter. Treatment is not where a visit opens. A check is — a number of faults register as the same light.
How the car is run in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Amber light, car yet driving normally — a long steady run can still clear it by itself. Costs nothing at all, and worth trying before you call anything.
- Once the car is in limp mode, motoring will not shift it. The window has shut.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under the throttle, is the stage to stop planning long drives and ring.
The vehicle has been warning you already
Symptoms have usually been building for some time before the light so much as shows. Belated news, in other words:
- power tailing off, particularly pulling uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they once did
- fuel consumption turning worse
- a stop/start that has quietly packed in
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under acceleration
None of that is evidence by itself. It is a fair assumption the filter is blocked once the light is there too.
What clogs diesel particulate filters round Foul Mile
For a DPF, the poorest driving is the kind you get around a rural hamlet such as Foul Mile. The school run to Herstmonceux Church of England Primary School, Foul Mile at a standstill at half eight, ten minutes to Co-op Food, the hop to Polegate — none of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. The soot load collects rather than clearing.
Neither is far from Foul Mile: under 25 miles to the M23, under 25 miles to Brighton and Hove. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the run that would clear a filter simply never happens.
Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops
The car is defending itself, which is what limp mode is. With power limited and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter needs can never complete at all. That tells, because triggering one is just what a long run does.
Sound advice, that motorway run — up until the moment it is not. Beyond that stage — limp mode — driving will not do it, and the filter needs a clean.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is cleaned in Foul Mile
Most people do not anticipate this part: the filter stays on. The job takes place with the DPF yet fitted to the car — on your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the motor can wait for a few hours.
Nothing is touched until other faults are ruled out. That means a diagnostic first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percent and by weight, and a look over of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and related hardware.
Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never shift are loosened second, by a solution passed through the access port on that vehicle, which expands inside the filter. Where the filter is severely loaded, plan on a second pass.
What the clean has loosened is then cleared by a regeneration. If you are there, that is run as a monitored drive out of Foul Mile; if not, statically where the vehicle waits, with the running data verified afterwards.
Then a second diagnostic, verifying the change, resetting the warning light and noting anything still logged. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are recorded.
What a DPF clean will not touch
Cleaning answers one thing: a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does little for:
- the wrong figure from a pressure or temperature sensor
- an EGR valve stuck open
- the AdBlue system playing up
- a regeneration that hardly ever starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
- turbo problems, with oil entering the filter
Finding that out is the first check's purpose. Turning out to be one of them means finding out it before any work begins, not after settling up a penny.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is exchanged: the filter you already own is cleared where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it hollowed out a solution, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes an offence. Two more things worth noting.
Prices for DPF cleaning across Foul Mile
A clean begins from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it pays for the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
Once we know what you run, and roughly what the filter will need, the figure gets agreed by phone. A single price for every job would not be straight. Whereabouts you are counts as much as what you own: Foul Mile itself, Trolliloes next door, or further out within the BN postcode area.
If the diagnostic counts a clean out, there is not a penny to pay for it. What still applies is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the scan was run and the advice was given.
If the light comes back inside that period, an engineer heads back out to Foul Mile — the work carries a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
The service was good and quick. After the service he let me know what he done and what else needs to done to my car.
Really positive experience using DPF Fixer. The technicians attended on time and explained the process well. Leaving me with a vehicle health check, diagnostic report and full details of the job carried out. The car runs much better as a result of the DPF clean. Recommended.
Happy with the operative it came and worked on more van the van run lovely for 3 days and then the engine light come back on again and it went back into restrictive so I need to get in touch to with the company to see where we go.
What we clean, and how far we reach around Foul Mile
The filter is done on the vehicle on all of them: cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.
Most weeks there is by then someone on Foul Mile, so Foul Mile rarely means a special trip, and Trolliloes, Warbleton and the places past Cowbeech come with it. Coverage is UK-wide, so farther out through East Sussex is even so worth a ring, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the schedule rather than the distance.

What Foul Mile drivers want to know about DPF cleaning
- Can I merely take it for a long drive?
- It can, provided you get it early and limp mode has not begun. That requires motorway speed for a sustained run, rather than a quick trip to Co-op Food.
- Does the visit run long?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is badly loaded.
- What does it come to in Foul Mile?
- The call-out charge pays for the visit, the scan and the advice; cleaning itself begins from £299. Settling it is done by phone, since what you own and where you sit both move the figure.
- Have I have to be there?
- The vehicle requires a spot for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. Wanting to be there is fine: the regeneration then goes out on the move, monitored.
- Can someone get to Foul Mile soon?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is now in the diary. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is available across the BN area.
- Is the filter lifted off the car?
- On the on-site service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Getting a filter off or fitting one back on amount to anything something we do whichever way.
- What if the light comes back?
- Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Foul Mile.
