Mobile DPF Cleaning covering Foul Anchor, Cambridgeshire

Treating the DPF takes place at the vehicle, not at a body shop. A fitter turns up at your door in Foul Anchor, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is still on the vehicle, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you started with.

Nobody travels until the number is settled over the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.

If the light is on already and the car is down on power, this page is for you. That is how most drivers get to us.

Your DPF light is showing — what then?

The filter is not necessarily what is to blame, and that goes first. Several faults put the very same light on the same panel, which is why a visit begins with a check rather than with treatment.

Second thing: how you run it between now and then matters.

  • Amber light, motor yet driving fine — a long steady run can yet shift it alone. Costs nothing, and worth a try before you ring anything.
  • Once the vehicle is in limp mode, motoring will not shift it. The window has gone.
  • Get it seen to rather than driving it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the throttle, has gone past the long-run stage.

What the car has been showing you

Last news, the light. The symptoms usually grow for some time before it appears:

  • climbing uphill, the power drops away
  • you see the revs never reach where they once went
  • economy that is worse than it was
  • stop/start silently bowing out
  • the car stinking of diesel, or smoke when you press on

None of that is conclusive on its own. It is a fair bet the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.

Why diesel particulate filters choke around Foul Anchor

Being a village, Foul Anchor generates exactly the driving a DPF copes with least well. A regeneration needs the time and heat, and has not much: not on the school run to The Tydd St Mary Church of England Primary School, not on Bedford Row at half past eight, not on ten minutes to Lincolnshire Co-op, and not on the dash to Kings Lynn. Instead of clearing, the soot load banks up.

Neither is a long way from Foul Anchor: under 25 miles to the A1(M), under 25 miles to Peterborough. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the run that would clear a filter simply never comes.

DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode ends it

What limp mode amounts to is the motor defending itself. Power is held down, the revs will not rise, and the regeneration the filter wants can not happen — which is the entire problem, because a sustained drive works by starting that regeneration.

Getting it up the motorway is the common advice, and it holds right up to a point. In limp mode you are past that line: cleaning is what will do it, not more miles.

DPF cleaning at the vehicle in Foul Anchor

Nothing leaves the motor. That throws people. The DPF remains fitted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a drive, in a works car park, wherever it can wait for two hours or so.

Nothing is cleaned until other faults are cleared. That involves a check first: live data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by weight, and a review of the sensor readings, glow plugs and related hardware.

Then comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the motor's own access point, expanding inside the filter and loosening what a regeneration will not. Where the filter is severely clogged, expect a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has lifted. That is a monitored drive out of Foul Anchor if you are along, or a static regeneration where the vehicle waits, with the live data read once done.

A second check confirms the change, clears the warning light and logs anything still showing. Both read-outs are emailed over, so you keep the before and after figures recorded.

What a DPF clean will not fix

Treatment answers one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • the wrong figure from a temperature sensor
  • the EGR valve jammed open
  • an AdBlue system fault
  • glow plugs or injectors blocking the regeneration running whatsoever
  • turbo trouble, with oil entering the filter

Finding that out is the first diagnostic's job. Turning out to be one of them means finding out it before the work starts, not after paying anything.

DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is replaced: the filter you already own is treated where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it gutted a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth bearing in mind.

Costs for DPF cleaning in Foul Anchor

Any visit carries a call-out charge — travelling to you, setting up the booking, running the diagnostic and giving the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.

Not one flat rate would be truthful, so the price is agreed over the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. What you drive and where you are both move it: Foul Anchor itself, over at Four Gotes, or further out in the PE postcode area.

If the check writes a clean out, there is nothing to pay for it. The call-out charge still applies, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have happened.

Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light reappear within it, an engineer heads back to Foul Anchor.

The vehicles we clean and the area we take in near Foul Anchor

The filter is treated in place on all of them: cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is carried anywhere.

Foul Anchor is hardly ever a special trip: engineers are out on Bedford Row most weeks, and the same run covers Four Gotes, Tydd St Mary and the places out past Tydd Gote. It is the diary, not the distance, that decides whether it is one day or the next, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so ring anyway from even further out through Cambridgeshire.

Questions Foul Anchor drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Can I simply take it for a long drive?
It may, provided you get it early and limp mode has not begun. Ten minutes to Lincolnshire Co-op and back will not do it; motorway speed, sustained for some time, will.
Roughly how long does it take?
Allow typically around 2 hours — severely clogged filters sometimes take a second pass, which extends it.
What does it run to in Foul Anchor?
Treatment begins from £299, and the call-out charge on top covers the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why pricing goes by phone.
Do I have to be there?
No. The motor requires somewhere to sit for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. The regeneration can be done as a supervised drive if you would prefer to be there.
Travelling to Foul Anchor — how soon?
You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is already in the schedule. One ring to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the PE area has open.
Will the filter be removed?
On the call-out service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. We never lift filters off or fit them back on, in either direction.
The light comes back — then what?
Aftercare sits inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to Foul Anchor.
