The light is late news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have usually been growing for a while:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- you notice the revs never reach where they used to go
- the fuel economy is down
- the stop/start silently giving up
- a diesel smell in the cabin, or smoke under the throttle
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not evidence. Next to the light, it is a fair bet the filter is blocked.
Why diesel particulate filters choke around Fossebridge
