Fosdyke, Lincolnshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Sorting the DPF happens at the car, not at a workshop. The fitter pulls up at your door across Fosdyke and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleared still on the motor, a DPF regeneration follows, and you end up with the filter you started with.
Nobody travels until the number is settled by the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean starts from £299.
Written for the position most owners are in: the light on already, the motor short for power, and the job still to book.
What to check when the DPF light shows
The filter is not automatically what is to blame, and that goes first. A clean is not where a visit begins. A diagnostic is — a number of faults appear as the same signal.
It counts what you get with the car between now and the appointment.
- A long steady run may still manage it, provided the light is amber and the motor drives fine. Costs zero, so try that before ringing.
- Vehicle already fallen into limp mode — that window has gone. A drive will not touch it now.
- Stop booking long drives and get it seen to if the interior stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you pull away.
The car has been telling you already
Last news, the light. The symptoms generally mount for a while before it shows:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- you find the revs never reach where they used to go
- fuel use that is worse than it was
- stop/start without a word giving up
- the interior smelling of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
None of that is evidence on its own. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is showing too.
The explanation diesel particulate filters block round Fosdyke
The driving that goes with a coastal village like Fosdyke is the poorest sort for a DPF. Nothing of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration: the school run to The Fourfields Church of England School, Sutterton, Bell Lane crawling at half eight, five minutes to Lincolnshire Co-op, the run to Boston. Soot that should burn off banks up instead.
Neither is a long way from Fosdyke: under 50 miles to the A1(M), under 25 miles to Peterborough. Neither is on the way to much most weeks, though, so the drive that would scour a filter simply never comes.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode stops it
The car is defending itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. A long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode rules out: power capped, revs held down, no regeneration available.
The standard advice — take it up the motorway — is sound, right until it is not. In limp mode you are beyond that stage: treatment is what will help, not more driving.
On-site DPF cleaning where the car stands round Fosdyke
Most owners do not anticipate this bit: the filter stays on. The job happens with the DPF even now bolted to the motor — on your driveway, in a work car park, any place the car can stand for a couple of hours.
A diagnostic goes first — running data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a check of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated components, so other faults are eliminated before a thing is started.
After that comes the clean itself: solution in through the vehicle's own access port, opening out inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration never can. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to take doing twice.
Next, a regeneration clears everything the clean freed. Either it runs as a monitored drive out of Fosdyke, with you there, or it is done where the motor sits and the live data is checked after.
Then a second scan, confirming the change, putting out the warning light and noting anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are kept.
The problems a DPF clean cannot answer
Treatment fixes one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, showing a restriction that is not real
- EGR valves that stick open
- a problem in the AdBlue system
- failed glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever completes
- oil coming through the filter from a faulty turbo
Which is why the diagnostic comes first. Turning out to be one of them means finding out it before any work begins, not after settling up anything.
DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is exchanged: the filter you own is treated where it sits and returned to use. Nor is having it gutted a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth noting.
What DPF cleaning comes to around Fosdyke
The cleaning starts from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that goes with it.
The number is fixed on the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be truthful. The motor shifts it, and so does the location — Fosdyke, Bucklegate, or anywhere further out in the PE postcode area.
If the scan writes treatment out, there is nothing to pay for it. What nonetheless stands is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the scan was run and the advice was given.
A 30-day warranty covers aftercare on the work, and that includes an engineer coming back out to Fosdyke if the light comes back inside the time.
Your fitter, Zac, came at the agreed time and did the work very efficiently outside our house. He explained everything fully and went with me to test drive the car to make sure everything was rectified. Very happy with everything. 10/10.

The vehicles we clean and the patch we cover near Fosdyke
The one call-out service covers private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant and construction machinery and farm vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.
The same run that puts technicians on Bell Lane most weeks covers Fosdyke, Bucklegate, Seadyke and the villages beyond Algarkirk. It is the schedule, not the distance, that decides whether it is today or tomorrow, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone even from farther out across Lincolnshire.

Questions Fosdyke drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- Sometimes, if you catch it in time and the motor has not slipped into limp mode. It needs a steady run at motorway speed, not fifteen minutes to Lincolnshire Co-op and back.
- The visit lasts how long?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is severely blocked.
- What does it come to in Fosdyke?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. We price on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the price.
- Have I need to be around?
- No. The motor requires space to wait for a couple of hours; you do not need to stand with it. The regeneration can be run as a supervised drive if you would sooner ride along.
- Getting to Fosdyke — how soon?
- That comes down to the calendar, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is available across the PE area.
- Is the filter removed from the motor?
- It is done where it stands, on the mobile service. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- The light returns — then what?
- The 30-day warranty includes aftercare, including an engineer returning to Fosdyke.
