Mobile DPF Cleaning across Ford and Somerset
With on-site DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. No body shop, no filter going anywhere. A technician travels to your address over in Ford, clears the diesel particulate filter as it sits, runs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
Nobody travels until the price is settled on the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
Written for the state most owners are in: the light on already, the motor short for power, and the job still to book.
What to check when the DPF light comes on
Not the filter, automatically. Opening thing to note. A check goes before any treatment, because that same panel light has several likely faults behind it.
It tells what you get with the motor between now and the visit.
- Worth a go before you book anything: amber light, vehicle driving as normal, just one even run, no charge.
- A drive will not touch it now — limp mode means that window has already gone.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under the throttle, is the moment to stop booking long drives and ring.
Before the light, what the motor was showing you
By the time the light appears, things have generally been going wrong for some time. It is belated news:
- less power, particularly climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise as before
- economy that is worse than it used to be
- the stop/start silently giving up
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in there
None of that is conclusive by itself. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair bet.
The explanation diesel particulate filters clog around Ford
Ford is a rural hamlet, and the driving that goes with one is the poorest kind for a DPF. The school run to Wiveliscombe Primary School, Castle Lane at a standstill at the morning rush, a few minutes to Co-op Food, the dash to Taunton — not one bit of it goes on long enough or runs hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration. What should burn off stays put.
Geography does not oblige either. The M5 is under 10 miles from Ford and Exeter is under 25 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way routinely, entire weeks pass without the long unbroken run that would clear the filter on its own.
DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode kills it
What limp mode amounts to is the car looking after itself. With pulling power capped and the revs pinned, the regeneration the filter wants will not complete at all. That counts, because triggering one is precisely what a sustained run does.
The common advice — take it up the motorway — is sensible, right until it is not. In limp mode you are the far side of that point: a clean is what will work, not more road work.
Mobile DPF cleaning where the motor stands across Ford
Nothing leaves the motor. That throws people. The DPF sits fitted where it is and the work is done around it, on a drive, in a works car park, wherever it can stand for a couple of hours.
A check goes first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by proportion and by mass, and a check of the sensor readings, glow plugs and related hardware, so other faults are ruled out before anything is cleaned.
A solution after that is injected through the access port on that vehicle, expanding inside the filter to free soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never shift. Badly loaded filters sometimes require a second pass.
A regeneration follows, driving off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is done as a monitored drive out of Ford; if not, statically where the motor stands, with the real-time data checked after.
Both sets of figures go over by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second check is what proves the change, puts out the light and lists whatever is still outstanding.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing treatment answers. It will not reach:
- a pressure sensor showing a block that is not there
- the EGR valve jammed open
- AdBlue system problems
- faulty glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever completes
- a turbo putting oil through the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. Where it is found to be one of those, you are let know before any work begins rather than after you have settled up a penny.
A couple more worth noting. Getting the filter hollowed out is not a remedy — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is cleared in place and put back into use.
The cost of DPF cleaning around Ford
The cleaning begins from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that follows.
The number is settled on the phone, once we know the vehicle and what the filter is likely to need. No flat rate could be truthful. What you run and where you are both shift it: Ford itself, over at Hartswell, or farther out across the TA postcode area.
Treatment that will not help is not a clean you pay for, and the scan is what says so. What nonetheless holds is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the scan was carried out and the advice was passed on.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer comes back to Ford.
5 star service from DPF Fixer. Liam the engineer who attended my home was very pleasant, professional and went through the entire process in detail. He also helped resolve the problems, I had with my vehicle. Highly recommended to anyone who needs a DPF cleaning service at home.
On time. Very professional. Answered all my questions. Car running perfect when finished. The technician was a credit to the company.
Thank you Igor for resolving the dpf issue with my vw cc on 15.7.24. Kudos to the back office team as well for answering my questions beforehand. Vroom, vroom!
What we clean, and how far we go around Ford
The filter is done on the vehicle on all of them: private cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
Ford is rarely a special trip: technicians are out on Castle Lane nearly every week, and the same run picks up Hartswell, Whitefield and the places out past Wiveliscombe. It is the schedule, not the distance, that settles whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so phone still from further out across Somerset.

Ford has a population of around 263 people, predominantly living in detached houses.
Questions Ford drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive clear it?
- Sometimes, if you spot it early and the car has not slipped into limp mode. A steady run at motorway speed is what it wants — not five minutes or so to Co-op Food and back.
- How long does the visit last?
- Expect typically around 2 hours — heavily clogged filters sometimes need a second pass, which extends it.
- What does it run to across Ford?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge covering the visit, the check and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why quoting goes by phone.
- Is it essential for me to be around?
- A spot for the vehicle to sit, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. Come along if you like, and the regeneration becomes a watched drive.
- How soon can someone come to Ford?
- Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is usual. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is open across the TA area.
- Will the filter be removed?
- On the mobile service, no: the filter is done in place. Taking a filter off or putting one back on come to anything work we do whichever way.
- And if the light reappears?
- An engineer comes back out to Ford — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
