Mobile DPF Cleaning for Ford, Devon

The motor remains where it is — call-out DPF cleaning travels to it. An engineer arrives at your place across Ford, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the motor, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you came with.

Budget for the visit lasting typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, agreed by the phone before anyone travels.

If the light is on already and the vehicle is low on power, this page is yours. That is how most owners get to us.

The DPF light is on. What next?

First thing: it is not necessarily the unit. A scan happens before the cleaning, because that same dash light has several candidate faults behind it.

How the vehicle is driven in the meantime counts too.

  • Vehicle still driving as normal on an amber light — attempt a long constant run first. It costs nothing at all and regularly shifts the filter without help.
  • That window has gone once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode. Motoring will not do it now.
  • Stop booking long drives and get it looked at if the interior stinks of diesel or there is black smoke when you press on.

The motor has been showing you already

The light is last news. By the time it shows, the symptoms have usually been building for weeks:

  • pulling uphill, the power falls off
  • the revs no longer climb the way they once did
  • the fuel consumption is down
  • stop/start without a word giving up
  • a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle

Any one of those, taken alone, is not conclusive. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair bet.

Why diesel particulate filters block round Ford

Being a coastal village, Ford generates precisely the use a DPF manages least well. Run through an ordinary week: St Helen's Church of England School and home again, Atlantic Highway at a crawl before half nine, a five-minute run to Aldi, a run to Barnstaple. Not much there runs long enough or runs hot enough to complete a regeneration. Instead of burning off, the soot load builds up.

Unless you have a regular need to drive out to the M5, under 50 miles from Ford, or out to Exeter under 50 miles away, entire weeks pass without a sustained drive. Geography is no help.

Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration

The motor is defending itself, which is what limp mode is. A long drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode blocks: power limited, revs held down, no regeneration on offer.

Running it up the motorway is the common advice, and it stands as far as a point. The filter needs treatment rather than driving once the car has dropped into limp mode.

Cleaning a clogged diesel particulate filter in Ford, Devon

The motor stays in place for on-site DPF cleaning in Ford

Most owners do not anticipate this bit: the filter stays on. The job happens with the DPF still bolted to the vehicle — on your front, in a work car park, any place the vehicle can stand for a few hours.

The ECU is read first, showing soot load by proportion and by actual weight, along with a review of sensors, glow plugs and associated parts, so nothing is touched while another fault is still open.

Then the clean. A cleaning solution goes in through the access port on that vehicle and expands inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never move. A second pass is sometimes needed on heavily blocked filters.

Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean freed. Ride along with the motor and it is done as a monitored drive out of Ford. Leave it and the regeneration goes statically, with real-time data checked once it is done.

Both read-outs are sent by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second diagnostic is what confirms the change, puts out the light and notes whatever is still open.

When a DPF clean is not the answer

One thing is what cleaning answers — a filter blocked with soot and ash. It does no good for:

  • pressure or temperature sensors reporting a block that is not there
  • an EGR valve held open
  • the AdBlue system playing up
  • faulty glow plugs or injectors, so not one regeneration ever completes
  • the turbo passing oil into the filter

The first scan is there for just that. You are told before any work begins, not after you have settled up, if it turns out to be one of those.

DPF renewal is what people look up, but no part is swapped: the filter you have is cleared where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it cut out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth noting.

What DPF cleaning costs across Ford

Any visit attracts a call-out charge — getting to you, setting up the booking, running the diagnostic and offering the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.

Naming a flat rate would not be straight. We agree it on the phone, once the vehicle and its expected needs are established. Whereabouts you are matters as much as what you run: Ford itself, Knotty Corner close by, or further out across the EX postcode area.

If the diagnostic counts cleaning out, there is not a penny to pay for it. What still applies is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the check was done and the advice was offered.

The work comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Ford if the light comes back inside that time.

What we clean, and how far we travel around Ford

Cars and estates, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery — one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than taken anywhere.

Most weeks there is by then someone on Atlantic Highway, so Ford seldom means a journey of its own, and Knotty Corner, Woodtown and the spots past Abbotsham come with it. Coverage is UK-wide, so further out through Devon is nonetheless worth a phone call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

Ford is located 37.4 miles from Exeter and 182.5 miles from London.

Frequent questions on DPF cleaning around Ford

Will a long drive sort it?
Early enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It wants a long run at motorway speed, not five minutes or so to Aldi and back.
Broadly how long does it take?
Expect typically around 2 hours — heavily blocked filters sometimes need a second pass, which lengthens it.
Price around Ford — what is it?
It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the scan and the advice. The vehicle and your address both change the figure, so we settle it on the phone.
Have I got to be around?
The vehicle requires a space for two hours or so. You need not be in it. Travel along if you prefer, and the regeneration is done as a monitored drive.
How soon can someone come to Ford?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is already in the schedule. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is open across the EX area.
Is the filter lifted off the vehicle?
On the on-site service, no: the filter is done in place. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
Suppose the light returns?
Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Ford.
