Mobile DPF Cleaning across Ford and Derbyshire

Call-out DPF cleaning travels to the motor. Your vehicle is not taken away and the filter will not come off. A fitter turns up at your place across Ford, clears the diesel particulate filter still on the vehicle and carries out a DPF regeneration.

You'll have a number by phone before anyone leaves, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.

The light is already on and the vehicle is down on power — that is how we generally come across people, and roughly what this page is about.

What to try when the DPF light comes on

It might not be the unit in the end. That is the first thing. A diagnostic goes before all cleaning, because that same dashboard light has several candidate faults behind it.

How the car is handled in the meantime counts too.

  • Amber light, motor even now driving fine — a long steady run can yet shift it on its own. Costs nothing, and worth attempting before you book anything.
  • That window has shut once the motor has fallen into limp mode. A drive will not do it now.
  • Get it looked at rather than running it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on the throttle, has gone well past the long-run stage.

What the vehicle has been telling you

By the time the light shows, things have generally been slipping for some time. It is last news:

  • falling off on power, especially uphill
  • the revs no longer rise the way they always did
  • fuel consumption going worse
  • a stop/start that has quietly bowed out
  • diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the box

By itself, none of that is evidence. Next to the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.

The cause diesel particulate filters clog near Ford

For a DPF, the least kind driving is the sort you get across a rural hamlet such as Ford. Not one bit of it lasts long enough or is hot enough for the filter to see through a regeneration: the school run to Marsh Lane Primary School, Ford Road barely moving at half eight, ten minutes to Job Lot, the dash to Dronfield. Unburnt soot that should burn away collects instead.

The M1 lies under 5 miles from Ford, Sheffield under 10 miles off, and unless something takes you out that way routinely, full weeks go by without the long unbroken run that scours a filter. Geography does not help.

DPF regeneration, and the stage limp mode kills it

What limp mode comes down to is the motor defending itself. The entire difficulty is that a long drive works by setting off a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is limited.

The common advice — run it up the motorway — is sound, up until it is not. The filter wants a clean rather than more driving once the motor has gone into limp mode.

The vehicle stays where it is for call-out DPF cleaning across Ford

Nothing is taken from the car. That catches out people. The DPF sits bolted where it is and the work happens around it, on a drive, in a works car park, any place it can stand for a couple of hours.

First a diagnostic. Live ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a weight, the sensors, the glow plugs, the related hardware — all of it taken before anything is cleaned.

Then the cleaning. A cleaning solution goes in through the access port on that motor and opens out inside the filter, lifting the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never budge. A second pass is sometimes needed on heavily blocked filters.

A regeneration comes next, driving off what the clean has freed. Either it is done as a monitored drive out of Ford, with you present, or it runs where the vehicle waits and the live data is read once done.

Then a second check, verifying the change, resetting the warning light and listing anything still outstanding. Both sets of figures are emailed over, so the before and after figures are kept.

When a DPF clean is not the answer

A clean cures one thing: a filter choked with soot and ash. It does nothing for:

  • a pressure or temperature sensor showing a block that is not there
  • a jammed EGR valve
  • the AdBlue system playing up
  • failed glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever starts
  • a turbo passing oil through the filter

That is what the first check is for. Transpiring to be one of them means finding out it before work begins, not after handing over for it.

DPF renewal is what people type in, but no part is replaced: the filter you own is cleaned where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it cut out a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth bearing in mind.

The cost of DPF cleaning around Ford

Any visit attracts a call-out charge — getting to you, making the booking, running the scan and giving the advice. The clean itself starts from £299.

The figure is fixed on the phone, once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is apt to need. No flat rate could be truthful. The motor changes it, and so does the postcode — Ford, Ridgeway, or anywhere otherwise out in the S postcode area.

Cleaning that will not do it is not cleaning you pay for, and the check is what says so. You still pay that charge: someone came out, ran the check and passed on you the advice.

A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the clean, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Ford if the light returns inside the time.

The vehicles we clean and the area we reach round Ford

Cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles — a single call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is cleaned where it sits rather than moved anywhere.

Ford is seldom a special trip: our engineers are out on Ford Road week in week out, and the same run takes in Ridgeway, Ridgeway Moor and the villages out past Marsh Lane. It is the diary, not the distance, that decides whether it is one day or the next, and coverage reaches UK-wide — so call still from even further out across Derbyshire.

Ford has a population of around 260 residents and is located in a scenic area of the East Midlands. Ford is also relatively distant from London, at a distance of 136.1 miles.

Things Ford drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Does a long run shift it?
It can, provided you get it early and limp mode has not arrived. Ten minutes to Job Lot and back will not manage it; motorway speed, held for a while, will.
The visit lasts how long?
Reckon on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is badly loaded.
How much does it run to in Ford?
Opening from £299, with a charge for coming out that covers the scan and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why pricing is done by phone.
Have I got to be around?
You do not need to stand with it — the motor just requires space to stand for a couple of hours. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be carried out as a watched drive instead.
Getting to Ford — how soon?
That comes down to the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is free across the S area.
The filter — does it come away from the vehicle?
Cleaned where it stands, on this service, so no. And neither does taking a filter off nor putting one back on is work we do.
Suppose the light reappears?
The 30-day warranty covers aftercare, including an engineer returning to Ford.
