Mobile DPF Cleaning across Flosh, Dumfries and Galloway

Cleaning the DPF takes place at the motor, not at a garage. A fitter comes at your address in Flosh, treats the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the motor, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you arrived with.

The visit takes typically around 2 hours, the clean begins from £299, and the figure is settled by the phone before anyone sets off.

Most drivers find us with the light on already, and the motor low on power. That is exactly what this page is meant for.

What to try when the DPF light is on

The unit is not necessarily what is wrong, and that leads. A scan goes before any work, because that same panel light has several likely faults behind it.

It counts what you manage with the motor between now and the visit.

  • A long constant run may still be enough, provided the light is amber and the vehicle goes as normal. Costs zero, so have a go at that before booking.
  • That window has closed once the motor has slipped into limp mode. Driving will not do it now.
  • Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under acceleration — stop arranging long drives and get it seen to.

What the motor has been showing you

The light is belated news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have usually been building for weeks:

  • power dropping away, particularly going uphill
  • revs that will not pull the way they always did
  • fuel consumption going worse
  • silently, the stop/start bows out
  • smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in there

Any one of those, taken alone, is not proof. The light beside them indicates a loaded filter.

Choked diesel particulate filters round Flosh, and the cause

Being a rural hamlet, Flosh generates exactly the use a DPF copes with worst. The school run to the local primary school, B724 at a halt at half eight, ten minutes to Aldi, the run to Annan — nothing of it lasts long enough or gets hot enough for the filter to finish a regeneration. The unburnt soot banks up rather than burning away.

The A74(M) lies under 10 miles from Flosh, Carlisle under 25 miles off, and unless something pulls you out that way often, entire weeks go by without the long steady run that clears a unit. Geography does not oblige.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration stops

What limp mode comes down to is the motor protecting itself. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode prevents: power limited, revs pinned, no regeneration on offer.

The usual advice — get it up the motorway — is sound, until it is not. Past that stage — limp mode — more driving will not be enough, and the filter requires a clean.

Cleaning a clogged diesel particulate filter in Flosh, Dumfries and Galloway

The car stays where it is for mobile DPF cleaning across Flosh

On your drive, in a work car park, wherever the car can sit for a couple of hours: the job is done with the filter yet fixed on, which is the part most drivers do not anticipate.

Nothing is touched until other faults are eliminated. That requires a scan first: live data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by mass, and a look over of the sensor readings, glow plugs and connected components.

After that comes the clean itself: a cleaning solution in through the vehicle's own access port, expanding inside the filter and lifting what a regeneration cannot. Where the filter is badly clogged, expect a second pass.

Then a regeneration, to drive off what the clean has freed. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Flosh; if not, on the spot where the motor sits, with the running data checked afterwards.

Then a second scan, confirming the change, resetting the warning light and logging anything still showing. Both reports are sent over, so the before and after figures are recorded.

Where cleaning is not the solution

One thing is what cleaning cures — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:

  • pressure or temperature sensors flagging a block that is not there
  • the EGR valve jammed open
  • a problem in the AdBlue system
  • glow plugs or injectors stopping the regeneration running in the first place
  • a turbo passing oil through the filter

Finding that out is the first scan's job. Turning out to be one of them means finding out it before any work starts, not after handing over for it.

DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is replaced: the filter you own is treated where it sits and put back to work. Nor is having it cut out a fix, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes illegal. Two more things worth knowing.

The price of DPF cleaning across Flosh

A call-out charge holds whatever follows, and takes in the visit, the booking fee, the check and the advice given. Cleaning itself begins from £299.

Once we have what you run, and broadly what the filter will need, the number gets agreed on the phone. A single price for every job would not be truthful. What you run and where you are both change it: Flosh itself, across at Priestside, or farther out within the DG postcode area.

Where the diagnostic says a clean will not work, you are not asked to pay for a clean. You still pay that charge: someone travelled, carried out the check and passed on you the advice.

The work carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Flosh if the light comes back inside that time.

Vehicles we clean, and where we travel round Flosh

Cars and estates, vans and light commercials, HGVs, plant machinery, agricultural machinery — one on-site service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done in place rather than taken anywhere.

Our engineers are along B724 week in week out, so Flosh is rarely a journey of its own, and the same run picks up Priestside, Clarencefield and the places out past Ruthwell. Coverage is UK-wide, so further out across Dumfries and Galloway is still worth a ring, and what settles between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Flosh itself

Flosh is a small coastal hamlet in Dumfries and Galloway, situated near the Solway Coast at an elevation of 17 metres. Flosh lies close to the border with England, near the cities of Carlisle and the nearby villages of Ruthwell and Priestside. Flosh has a population of around 180 people, predominantly living in detached houses.

What Flosh drivers want to know about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough on its own?
It might, provided you spot it early enough and limp mode has not set in. Fifteen minutes to Aldi and back will not do it; motorway speed, kept for a stretch, will.
The visit lasts how long?
Expect typically around 2 hours — severely blocked filters sometimes need a second pass, which extends it.
How much does it cost in Flosh?
The call-out charge pays for the visit, the scan and the advice; the clean itself begins from £299. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the figure.
Have I need to be there?
The motor needs a place for two hours or so. You need not be in it. The regeneration can be run as a monitored drive if you would sooner ride along.
When can someone travel to Flosh?
Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. One call to 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what the DG area has free.
Is the filter lifted off the car?
On the mobile service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. And neither does getting a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
What if the light returns?
Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer returning to Flosh.
