Mobile DPF Cleaning across Fleet, Dorset

Cleaning the DPF happens at the car, not at a workshop. Your car will not be taken anywhere and the filter does not come off. A fitter arrives at your door in Fleet, treats the diesel particulate filter still on the vehicle and runs a DPF regeneration.

Nobody travels until the number is agreed over the phone. The visit lasts typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.

The light is showing and the car is down on power — that is how we generally come across people, and precisely what this page is about.

DPF light on? What comes next

Not the filter, always. First thing to say. A check comes before the cleaning, because that same dash light has a number of candidate faults behind it.

The motoring you do in the meantime matters. That is the other thing.

  • Car yet driving normally on an amber light — have a go at a long steady run first. It costs nothing at all and regularly clears the filter without help.
  • That window has gone once the vehicle has dropped into limp mode. Driving will not do it now.
  • Get it seen to rather than driving it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on the throttle, has gone well past the long-run stage.

Signs the motor has been giving you

By the time the light shows, things have generally been slipping for a while. It is last news:

  • less power, above all climbing uphill
  • you find the revs fall short of where they always went
  • fuel consumption getting worse
  • stop/start without a word giving up
  • smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in the car

On its own, none of that is conclusive. It is a fair assumption the filter is full once the light is there too.

Clogged diesel particulate filters near Fleet, and the why

The day-to-day driving that comes with a coastal area like Fleet is the least kind kind for a DPF. The school run to Chickerell Primary Academy, Fleet Lane at a standstill at the morning rush, ten minutes to Aldi, the run to Weymouth — nothing of it goes on long enough or is hot enough for the filter to complete a regeneration. The unburnt soot builds up rather than burning off.

Unless you have a routine need to head out to the M5, under 50 miles from Fleet, or across to Wells under 50 miles away, weeks slip past without a sustained drive. Geography is against you.

Limp mode, and when DPF regeneration gives out

What limp mode means is the motor defending itself. The real problem is that a sustained drive works by triggering a regeneration, and in limp mode the revs will not climb and power is capped.

Good advice, that motorway run — up until the point it is not. Once the motor is in limp mode you are past that point, and the filter requires cleaning rather than driving.

Cleaning a blocked diesel particulate filter in Fleet, Dorset

The vehicle stays where it is for mobile DPF cleaning in Fleet

The filter does not budge. That is the detail most drivers do not anticipate: the job takes place with the DPF yet fixed to the car, on your front, in a work car park, any place the car can sit for a few hours.

A check comes first — real-time data off the ECU, soot load by percentage and by weight, and a review of the sensor feeds, glow plugs and associated parts, so other faults are ruled out before any of it is started.

Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never move are freed after that, by a solution put through the access port on that car, which expands inside the filter. Heavily blocked filters sometimes need a second pass.

A regeneration follows, driving off what the clean has loosened. If you are there, that is carried out as a monitored drive out of Fleet; if not, on the spot where the vehicle waits, with the live data verified afterwards.

Both sets of figures are sent by email, so the figures from either end are on record. The second diagnostic is what confirms the change, clears the light and logs whatever is still showing.

The problems a DPF clean cannot answer

One thing is what cleaning fixes — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • pressure sensors reporting a blockage that is not there
  • the EGR valve held open
  • AdBlue system failures
  • worn glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever starts
  • a turbo passing oil through the filter

Finding that out is the first scan's job. Transpiring to be one of them means finding out it before the work gets going, not after handing over a penny.

A couple more worth bearing in mind. Having the filter cut out is not a fix — a vehicle without a functioning DPF cannot pass its MOT and driving it is illegal. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is replaced, your original filter is treated in place and put back into use.

DPF cleaning charges across Fleet

Cleaning opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the diagnostics and the advice.

The figure is agreed over the phone, once we have the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. No flat rate could be truthful. What you drive and where you are both move it: Fleet itself, over at East Fleet, or farther out within the DT postcode area.

You are not charged for a clean that the check says will not help. You still pay that charge: someone came out, did the scan and passed on you the advice.

The work comes with a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer coming back out to Fleet if the light returns inside that period.

Peter R.

Igor, was extremely helpful, carried out a diagnostic test and found that my DPF was cracked and needs replacing, so no point in carrying out a clean. Explained everything and gave advice. really helpful service.

Vehicles we clean, and where we reach round Fleet

Whatever it is — car, panel van, light commercial, heavy goods vehicle, plant, construction machinery, agricultural vehicle — the very same call-out service holds, and the filter never departs it.

Week in week out there is usually someone on Fleet Lane, so Fleet hardly ever means a journey of its own, and East Fleet, Chickerell and the spots past Buckland Ripers follow. Coverage reaches UK-wide, so even further out through Dorset is still worth a phone call, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Fleet itself

Fleet is a small coastal locality in Dorset, situated near the mouth of the Fleet Lagoon and close to the nearby settlements of East Fleet and Chickerell. Fleet has a low elevation of around 9 metres above sea level and is characterized by detached housing. Fleet is part of a wider area of coastal communities along the Dorset coast, with the nearest city being Wells, located approximately 41 miles away.

What Fleet drivers want to know about DPF cleaning

Does a long run clear it?
It can, provided you spot it early and limp mode has not arrived. That requires motorway speed for a steady run, rather than a quick trip to Aldi.
The visit lasts how long?
Expect typically around 2 hours — heavily blocked filters sometimes need a second pass, which extends it.
The cost across Fleet — what is it?
Beginning from £299, with a charge for travelling that pays for the check and advice on what to do next. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both change the figure.
Must I be around in person?
Somewhere for the vehicle to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. The regeneration can be done as a supervised drive if you would prefer to come along.
Can someone get to Fleet soon?
It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the calendar. Ask 0303 330 1830 what is open across the DT area.
Will the filter be taken off?
It is cleaned where it is, on the mobile service. And neither does getting a filter off nor fitting one back on is work we do.
And if the light returns?
An engineer travels back out to Fleet — the 30-day warranty includes aftercare.
