Before the light, what the car was warning you
The light is belated news. By the time it appears, the symptoms have generally been building for weeks:
- less power, particularly climbing uphill
- an engine whose revs will not rise as they should
- the fuel consumption is worse
- without a word, the stop/start bows out
- smoke under acceleration, or a diesel smell in the car
That is not evidence alone. The light beside them indicates a blocked filter.
Why diesel particulate filters block round Finwood
