Mobile DPF Cleaning for Fendom, Highland
With mobile DPF cleaning, we come to the vehicle. The fitter turns up at your door across Fendom and gets to work. The diesel particulate filter is treated fitted to the car, a DPF regeneration follows, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
You'll know a figure by phone before anyone leaves, the clean opening from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.
Most owners find us with the light already on, and the car low on power. That is the position this page is aimed at.
The DPF light is on. What next?
The filter is not automatically what is to blame, and that comes first. Cleaning is not where a visit starts. A scan is — a number of faults show up as the same light.
It matters what you manage with the vehicle between now and the visit.
- Amber light, car still driving normally — a long steady run can even now shift it on its own. Costs nothing, and worth trying before you ring anything.
- Vehicle already gone into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not reach it now.
- Get it looked at rather than driving it — diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the throttle, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
What the motor has been warning you
By the time the light shows, things have usually been slipping for weeks. It is late news:
- tailing off on power, particularly uphill
- the revs no longer pull the way they always did
- the fuel consumption is poorer
- the stop/start silently giving up
- smoke under the throttle, or a diesel smell in there
Any one of those, taken by itself, is not proof. It is a fair guess the filter is loaded once the light is there too.
Why diesel particulate filters choke around Fendom
For a DPF, the least kind driving is the sort you find in a coastal area such as Fendom. Look at a normal week: the local primary school and home, Hunting Hill Road at a crawl before the hour, a short hop to Asda, a hop to Fearn. Nothing there lasts long enough or is hot enough to see through a regeneration. Unburnt soot that should burn off collects instead.
The M90 stands over 50 miles from Fendom, Inverness under 25 miles away, and unless something takes you out that way regularly, full weeks slip past without the sustained run that clears a unit. Geography does not help.
Why limp mode prevents a DPF regeneration
What limp mode amounts to is the car protecting itself. A proper drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is just what limp mode rules out: power held down, revs pinned, no regeneration possible.
So the standard advice to take it up the motorway is sensible advice, up until it stops being. Once the vehicle is in limp mode you are beyond that stage, and the filter wants treatment rather than road work.
The vehicle stays where it is for call-out DPF cleaning round Fendom
Nothing comes off the vehicle. That surprises people. The DPF stays fixed where it is and the work is done around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, wherever it can wait for two hours or so.
First a diagnostic. Running ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a mass, the sensor readings, the glow plugs, the associated parts — all of it read before any of it is cleaned.
Then the treatment. A solution goes in through the access point on that motor and expands inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration alone will never budge. Where the filter is badly blocked, expect a second pass.
A regeneration follows, burning off what the clean has freed. Ride along with the car and it becomes a monitored drive out of Fendom. Leave it and the regeneration goes on the spot, with real-time data checked once it is done.
Both reports go over by email, so the figures from either end are kept. The second diagnostic is what confirms the change, clears the light and lists whatever is still open.
The problems a DPF clean cannot fix
One thing is what treatment fixes — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does little for:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, flagging a blockage that is not real
- the EGR valve stuck open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration completing whatsoever
- a turbo pushing oil through the filter
Which is why the scan comes first. Where one of those proves the fault, you learn of it up front rather than once the money has gone already.
A couple more worth knowing. Getting the filter cut out is not a fix — a vehicle without a functioning DPF fails its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your own filter is treated in place and put back into use.
DPF cleaning costs across Fendom
A clean opens from £299, with the call-out charge on top of that for every visit — it takes in the call-out, the booking, the scans and the advice.
Once we have what you run, and roughly what the filter will need, the price gets agreed on the phone. A single price for every job would not be truthful. Where you are tells as much as what you own: Fendom itself, Lochslin close by, or otherwise out in the IV postcode area.
Treatment that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the scan is what says so. You even so pay that charge: someone came out, ran the diagnostic and gave you the advice.
The job carries a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer heading back out to Fendom if the light comes back inside that period.
Logan fixed my problem quickly and efficiently. I was very impressed with him and DPF Fixer. I will recommend the company in future.
Phoned the number, booked up. They sent someone out the next day. Brilliant service. Nick the mechanic was a very nice guy, he turned up and got straight on with it. Ace bloke. Would highly recommend this company. Thanks very much. Dean Marfell.
Thank you Igor for resolving the dpf issue with my vw cc on 15.7.24. Kudos to the back office team as well for answering my questions beforehand. Vroom, vroom!
The vehicles we clean and the area we take in near Fendom
Cars, vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, agricultural machinery — the one mobile service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is done on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.
The same trip that keeps technicians on Hunting Hill Road most weeks picks up Fendom, Lochslin, Knockbreck and the villages beyond Tain. Further out around Highland is still worth ringing about — coverage is UK-wide, and it is the schedule rather than the distance that picks between today and tomorrow.

Questions Fendom drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Is a long drive enough by itself?
- If you spot it early, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. Ten minutes to Asda and back will not do it; motorway speed, held for a while, will.
- About how long does it last?
- Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean adding to that where the filter is badly clogged.
- How much does it come to around Fendom?
- It begins from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the scan and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why settling it happens by phone.
- Have I have to be around?
- The motor needs a place for two hours or so. You do not need to be in it. The regeneration can be run as a monitored drive if you would prefer to be there.
- When can someone get to Fendom?
- That comes down to the schedule, but it is often same-day or next-day. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is open across the IV area.
- The filter — does it leave the motor?
- It is done where it is, on the call-out service. Taking a filter off or fitting one back on count as anything something we do whichever way.
- Suppose the light reappears?
- Aftercare comes inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Fendom.
