Feabuie, Highland: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With call-out DPF cleaning, we drive out to the vehicle. No workshop, no filter leaving. A technician comes to your place in Feabuie, clears the diesel particulate filter where it is, performs a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
Nobody sets off until the price is settled over the phone. The visit takes typically around 2 hours and the clean begins from £299.
Written for the position most owners are in: the light on already, the motor struggling for power, and the job still to book.
What to check when the DPF light shows
First thing: it is not necessarily the DPF. That light can follow a number of faults, not merely one, so the visit begins with a diagnostic and not with a clean.
How the car is handled in the meantime makes a difference too.
- Worth a try before you book anything: amber light, motor driving normally, just one constant run, no outlay.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has by then shut.
- A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under acceleration, is the moment to stop booking long drives and ring.
The motor has been warning you already
By the time the light arrives, things have usually been deteriorating for weeks. It is belated news:
- climbing uphill, the power falls off
- the revs no longer pull the way they always did
- the fuel consumption is down
- a stop/start that has meekly bowed out
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the box
None of that is conclusive on its own. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is full.
What blocks diesel particulate filters around Feabuie
Feabuie is a coastal area, and the motoring that comes with one is the worst sort for a DPF. Look at a typical week: the local primary school and home, Feabuie Road at a crawl before nine, a quick trip to Scotmid, a hop to Inverness Airport. None of it there runs long enough or gets hot enough to see through a regeneration. Soot that should burn away collects instead.
Geography does not help either. The M90 is over 50 miles from Feabuie and Inverness is under 10 miles away, so unless something takes you out that way often, weeks slip past without the long steady run that would scour the filter by itself.
Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration
The vehicle is looking after itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. With power limited and the revs held, the regeneration the filter requires will not run at all. That tells, because triggering one is just what a long run does.
The standard advice — get it up the motorway — is sound, right until it is not. The far side of that line — limp mode — driving will not do it, and the filter requires cleaning.
Where the motor stands is where the DPF is treated in Feabuie
Most people do not see coming this part: the filter remains. The job takes place with the DPF still fixed to the motor — on your front, in a work car park, wherever the vehicle can sit for a while.
First a scan. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a mass, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the connected components — all of it taken before anything is started.
After that comes the clean itself: solution in through the car's own access point, spreading inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration cannot. A second pass is sometimes needed on badly loaded filters.
A regeneration comes next, burning off what the clean has lifted. Come with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of Feabuie. Drop it and the regeneration goes on the spot, with live data verified once it is done.
Finally the scan runs again — the change confirmed, the light reset, anything still outstanding logged. Both reports arrive with you by email, so the numbers are on record.
The failures a DPF clean cannot cure
Only one fault is cured by treatment: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- the wrong signal from a temperature sensor
- EGR valves that hang open
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- glow plugs or injectors preventing the regeneration running at all
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
That is what the first diagnostic is for. You are let know before all work starts, not after you have settled up, where it turns out to be one of those.
Gutting the filter out is not a solution: without a serviceable DPF a vehicle cannot pass its MOT, and driving it is against the law. DPF renewal is the wording people look up, though nothing is swapped — your own filter is treated in place and put back into use. Two more worth noting.
What DPF cleaning comes to in Feabuie
The cleaning opens from £299. A call-out charge is added to every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the diagnostic and the advice that goes with it.
No flat rate would be straight, so the figure is fixed on the phone once we know the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. What you own and where you are both move it: Feabuie itself, across at Newlands of Culloden, or further out across the IV postcode area.
A clean that will not do it is not a clean you pay for, and the diagnostic is what says so. What nonetheless applies is the call-out charge, since the visit was made, the scan was carried out and the advice was passed on.
If the light reappears inside that time, an engineer travels back out to Feabuie — the job includes a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.
I called and within a couple of hours my car that could barely move was driving like new again. Really quick, friendly and professional service. Very happy with the service I received.
Liam did a thorough job and kept the car nice and clean. He thoroughly explained all he had done. Well done!
Engineer was very informative and polite, my car was fixed and I can only assume it will be ok in the future. Good service from this company.
The vehicles we clean and the area we cover near Feabuie
The filter is treated on the vehicle on all of them: private cars, vans and light commercials, heavy goods vehicles, plant machinery, agricultural vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.
Week in week out there is already someone on Feabuie Road, so Feabuie seldom means a special trip, and Newlands of Culloden, Leanach and the places past Croy follow. Coverage runs UK-wide, so further out around Highland is nonetheless worth a ring, and what decides between today and tomorrow is the diary rather than the distance.

Things Feabuie drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- If you catch it early, and the motor is not in limp mode, sometimes. Five minutes to Scotmid and back will not be enough; motorway speed, sustained for some time, will.
- How long does the visit run?
- Allow typically around 2 hours — severely loaded filters sometimes take a second pass, which adds to it.
- The cost in Feabuie — what is it?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge paying for the visit, the check and the advice. We settle it on the phone, because the vehicle and your address both shift the figure.
- Is it needed for me to be there?
- Somewhere for the vehicle to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is required. Not you. If you would sooner come along, the regeneration can be done as a supervised drive instead.
- When can someone travel to Feabuie?
- Depending on the diary, often same-day or next-day is normal. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will hear what is available across the IV area.
- Does the filter leave the car?
- Treated where it stands, on this service, so no. Neither job — a filter off, a filter back on — is not something we do.
- The light comes back — then what?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer returning to Feabuie.
