Fangfoss, East Riding of Yorkshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
With call-out DPF cleaning, we drive out to the car. No workshop, no filter coming off. A fitter drives out to your door over in Fangfoss, treats the diesel particulate filter where it is, carries out a DPF regeneration, and you hold on to the filter you came with.
Nobody travels until the number is fixed over the phone. The visit runs typically around 2 hours and the clean opens from £299.
Most people find us with the light showing, and the motor low on power. That is exactly what this page is meant for.
The DPF light is on. What now?
First thing: it is not always the filter. That light can arise from a number of faults, not merely one, so the visit begins with a scan and not with a clean.
It tells what you manage with the car between now and the visit.
- A long constant run may still do it, provided the light is amber and the car runs as normal. Costs zero, so attempt that before ringing.
- Once the motor is in limp mode, a long run will not reach it. The window has closed.
- Get it checked rather than using it — diesel in the interior, or smoke on hard acceleration, has gone well past the long-run stage.
Signs the motor has been showing you
Late news, the light. The symptoms generally grow for weeks before it arrives:
- dropping away on power, particularly uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they once did
- worse fuel economy
- stop/start without a word bowing out
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the gears
That is not proof on its own. With the light alongside them, the filter is a fair assumption.
Why diesel particulate filters block round Fangfoss
Being a village, Fangfoss throws up just the driving a DPF copes with least well. Think about an ordinary week: St Martin's Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School, Fangfoss and back, Highfield Lane at a standstill before the hour, a five-minute run to Co-op Food, a run to York. Nothing there runs long enough or is hot enough to see through a regeneration. What should burn off stays behind.
Except when you have a standing reason to get out to the M62, under 15 miles from Fangfoss, or across to York under 15 miles away, entire weeks slip past without a long unbroken stint. Geography is unhelpful.
The moment a DPF regeneration can no longer complete
The motor is looking after itself, which is what limp mode means. With pulling power limited and the revs kept low, the regeneration the filter wants can never complete at all. That matters, because starting one is precisely what a long run does.
So the usual advice to run it up the motorway is good advice, until it stops being. Beyond that point — limp mode — road work will not do it, and the filter needs treatment.
On-site DPF cleaning where the car stands across Fangfoss
On your front, in a work car park, any place the car can sit for a couple of hours: the job happens with the filter yet bolted on, which is the part most people do not expect.
First a diagnostic. Running ECU data, the soot load as a proportion and as a weight, the sensor feeds, the glow plugs, the associated components — all of it logged before any of it is touched.
Then the cleaning. A cleaning solution goes in through the access point on that vehicle and spreads inside the filter, freeing the soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. Severely blocked filters sometimes take a second pass.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean loosened. Stay with the motor and it turns into a monitored drive out of Fangfoss. Leave it and the regeneration is done in place, with live data verified once it is done.
A second check confirms the change, clears the warning light and logs anything still open. Both sets of figures are sent over, so you end up with the before and after figures recorded.
When a DPF clean is not the solution
One thing is what cleaning fixes — a filter choked with soot and ash. It does no good for:
- a pressure or temperature sensor reporting a block that is not there
- a jammed EGR valve
- the AdBlue system going wrong
- injectors or glow plugs that block a regeneration running whatsoever
- the turbo passing oil into the filter
Finding that out is the first diagnostic's purpose. Where one of those is the fault, you learn of it at the outset rather than once the money has changed hands altogether.
Gutting the filter out is not a fix: without a functioning DPF a vehicle fails its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the phrase people look up, though nothing is exchanged — your existing filter is cleared in place and sent back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.
What DPF cleaning costs across Fangfoss
The treatment opens from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and covers the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that comes with it.
Once we have what you own, and about what the filter will take, the price gets agreed on the phone. A single price for every job would not be truthful. What you drive and where you are both move it: Fangfoss itself, over at Yapham, or otherwise out within the YO postcode area.
Where the check says a clean will not help, you are not billed for treatment. You still pay that charge: someone turned up, did the scan and offered you the advice.
A 30-day warranty includes aftercare on the job, and that includes an engineer heading back out to Fangfoss if the light comes back inside the time.

Questions Fangfoss drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Can I simply take it for a long drive?
- Early enough, and with the car out of limp mode, yes — sometimes. It wants a steady run at motorway speed, not five minutes to Co-op Food and back.
- The visit lasts how long?
- That is typically around 2 hours, though a badly loaded filter can need cleaning twice, which takes longer.
- How much does it come to in Fangfoss?
- Beginning from £299, with a charge for travelling that covers the diagnostic and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why quoting happens by phone.
- Is it necessary for me to be present?
- No. The vehicle wants space to stand for a couple of hours; nobody expects you to stand with it. Travel along if you would rather, and the regeneration turns into a monitored drive.
- When can someone travel to Fangfoss?
- It is often same-day or next-day, depending on what is currently in the schedule. Call 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is open across the YO area.
- The filter — does it leave the vehicle?
- It is done where it stands, on the on-site service. Lifting a filter off or putting one back on count as anything a job we do in either direction.
- And if the light comes back?
- Aftercare falls inside the 30-day warranty, and that includes an engineer heading back to Fangfoss.
