The light is last news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have generally been growing for weeks:
- power falling off, especially going uphill
- an engine whose revs will not climb like they did
- economy that is worse than it used to be
- a stop/start that has quietly packed in
- the interior smelling of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
None of that is proof alone. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is there too.
Blocked diesel particulate filters around Etton, and the cause
