Signs the car has been sending you
The light is late news. By the time it arrives, the symptoms have normally been growing for weeks:
- less power, especially pulling uphill
- revs that will not climb the way they always did
- the fuel use is down
- a stop/start that has meekly packed in
- diesel in the interior, or smoke on the way up through the gears
By itself, none of that is evidence. Alongside the light, it is a fair bet the filter is blocked.
