First thing: it is not necessarily the filter. Plenty of faults put the identical light on the same panel, which is why a visit begins with a diagnostic rather than with cleaning.
It tells what you do with the motor between now and the visit.
- Worth a shot before you book anything: amber light, car driving normally, just one constant run, no charge.
- A drive will not reach it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
- A diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration, is the point to stop arranging long drives and ring.
What the vehicle has been telling you
Symptoms have usually been mounting for a while before the light so much as appears. Belated news, in other words:
- less power, particularly climbing uphill
- revs that will not pull the way they used to
- worse fuel consumption
- the stop/start silently giving up
- the cabin stinking of diesel, or smoke when you pull away
None of that is evidence by itself. It is a fair assumption the filter is full once the light is showing too.
Clogged diesel particulate filters around Ellary, and the why
The driving that comes with a coastal area like Ellary is the least kind kind for a DPF.
