Efford, Devon: Mobile DPF Cleaning
Treating the DPF takes place at the motor, not at a garage. The technician arrives at your address over in Efford and sets up. The diesel particulate filter is cleared still on the motor, a DPF regeneration follows, and you keep the filter you started with.
You'll have a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean opening from £299, and the visit running typically around 2 hours.
If the light is already on and the motor is short of power, this page is the right one. That is how most people end up here.
DPF light on? What to do
The unit is not always what is to blame, and that leads. A check goes before all work, because that same panel light has plenty of likely faults behind it.
Second thing: how you run it between now and then matters.
- A long even run may even now manage it, provided the light is amber and the car goes fine. Costs nothing at all, so have a go at that before booking.
- Car already dropped into limp mode — that window has closed. A drive will not reach it now.
- Get it looked at rather than using it — diesel in the car, or smoke on acceleration, has gone beyond the long-run stage.
Signs the car has been showing you
Belated news, the light. The symptoms usually mount for a while before it arrives:
- power dropping away, particularly pulling uphill
- an engine whose revs will not pull like they did
- worse fuel use
- silently, the stop/start gives up
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the box
Any one of those, taken alone, is not evidence. It is a fair bet the filter is full once the light is on as well.
Choked diesel particulate filters around Efford, and the reason
For a DPF, the least kind use is the type you find across a small village such as Efford. Look at an ordinary week: Newton St Cyres Primary School and home, Yendacott Lane at a halt before nine, a quick trip to Lidl, a hop to Newton St Cyres. Not much there runs long enough or is hot enough to complete a regeneration. What should burn off stays put.
The M5 stands under 10 miles from Efford, Exeter under 10 miles away, and unless something pulls you out that way routinely, full weeks pass without the sustained run that scours a DPF. Geography does not oblige.
DPF regeneration, and the point limp mode stops it
The vehicle is defending itself, which is what limp mode means. A proper drive works by triggering a regeneration, and that is exactly what limp mode rules out: power capped, revs kept low, no regeneration on offer.
Taking it up the motorway is the common advice, and it holds up to a limit. In limp mode you are beyond that stage: a clean is what will work, not more road work.
The car stays where it is for on-site DPF cleaning across Efford
The filter does not leave it. That is the part most drivers do not anticipate: the job takes place with the DPF yet fitted to the vehicle, on your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the car can sit for a few hours.
The ECU is read first, giving soot load by proportion and by weight, along with a look over of sensor readings, glow plugs and related components, so nothing is cleaned while another fault is still open.
Then comes the clean itself: cleaning fluid in through the car's own access port, opening out inside the filter and freeing what a regeneration will not. Heavily loaded filters sometimes need a second pass.
Next, a regeneration drives off everything the clean loosened. Stay with the motor and it becomes a monitored drive out of Efford. Leave it and the regeneration runs statically, with running data read once it is done.
Both reports are sent by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second diagnostic is what verifies the change, puts out the light and logs whatever is still open.
What a DPF clean will not fix
Only one fault is answered by a clean: the filter clogged with ash and soot. It does no good for:
- sensors, temperature or pressure, flagging a block that is not real
- the EGR valve held open
- a failure in the AdBlue system
- worn glow plugs or injectors, so no regeneration ever runs
- the turbo putting oil into the filter
Which is why the diagnostic goes first. You are warned before the work gets going, not after you have paid, where it turns out to be one of those.
DPF renewal is what people search for, but no part is exchanged: the filter you already own is cleared where it sits and sent back into service. Nor is having it gutted a remedy, since the MOT then fails and driving becomes unlawful. Two more things worth bearing in mind.
DPF cleaning prices across Efford
The cleaning begins from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the check and the advice that comes with it.
Once we are told what you own, and broadly what the filter will want, the number gets fixed by phone. A single price for every job would not be truthful. Two separate things shift it: what you run, and where you are — Efford itself, across at Uppincott, or otherwise out in the EX postcode area.
Where the scan says a clean will not do it, you are not asked to pay for treatment. What even so applies is the call-out charge, since the visit took place, the scan was run and the advice was given.
Aftercare is taken in by a 30-day warranty: should the light come back within it, an engineer returns to Efford.
Great company, I was in a bit of a situation where I needed my DPF cleaned as I needed the car back in the road! They managed to send out someone within 3 hours and the person they sent was thorough and professional!!
its been 3 months now and all seems good, the issue has not come back since it was cleaned out, the engineer was really good and explained everything well.
I had Kieran unblock my DPF today, can't fault him. He called me before he arrived to let me know he was on his way, explained everything to me before and after!
Vehicles we clean, and where we get to round Efford
The filter is cleaned in place on all of them: private cars, vans of any size and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is moved anywhere.
Efford is seldom a special trip: our engineers are out on Yendacott Lane week in week out, and the same run takes in Uppincott, Nettacott and the places out past Shobrooke. Farther out around Devon is even so worth ringing about — coverage reaches UK-wide, and it is the diary rather than the distance that decides between this day and the next.

Questions Efford drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive sort it?
- It may, provided you get it in time and limp mode has not arrived. A sustained run at motorway speed is what it needs — not fifteen minutes or so to Lidl and back.
- How long does the visit run?
- Expect typically around 2 hours — severely loaded filters sometimes require a second pass, which adds to it.
- How much does it come to around Efford?
- Beginning from £299, with a charge for travelling that pays for the check and advice on what to do next. Both the vehicle and where you are change it, which is why quoting happens by phone.
- Do I have to be present?
- You need not stand with it — the car just needs somewhere to wait for a couple of hours. The regeneration can be done as a watched drive if you would prefer to ride along.
- When can someone travel to Efford?
- Depending on the calendar, often same-day or next-day is usual. Phone 0303 330 1830 and you will learn what is free across the EX area.
- Does the filter come off the vehicle?
- It is cleaned where it is, on the call-out service. Nor does taking a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
- What if the light comes back?
- Covered by the 30-day warranty: aftercare, and an engineer travelling back to Efford.
