Last news, the light. The symptoms generally mount for a while before it shows:
- less power, especially going uphill
- you see the revs fall short of where they always went
- worse fuel use
- the stop/start quietly bowing out
- a diesel smell in the car, or smoke under the throttle
None of that is conclusive alone. It is a fair guess the filter is full once the light is there too.
Blocked diesel particulate filters round East End, and the reason
