Dunsa, Derbyshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning
On-site DPF cleaning goes to the vehicle. A fitter comes at your address in Dunsa, cleans the diesel particulate filter while it is attached to the motor, performs a DPF regeneration, and you end up with the filter you came with.
Reckon on the visit taking typically around 2 hours. The clean opens from £299, fixed by the phone before anyone leaves.
The light is already on and the vehicle is low on power — that is how we generally come across people, and precisely what this page covers.
Your DPF light is lit — what next?
It might not be the filter at all. That is the opening thing. A check happens before the treatment, because that same dashboard light has plenty of likely faults behind it.
It tells what you manage with the vehicle between now and the visit.
- Worth a try before you book anything: amber light, motor driving normally, just one even run, no outlay.
- A drive will not shift it now — limp mode means that window has by then closed.
- Diesel smell in the interior, or black smoke under acceleration — stop booking long drives and get it seen to.
Signs the car has been giving you
By the time the light appears, things have generally been going wrong for a while. It is belated news:
- falling off on power, especially uphill
- the revs no longer climb the way they always did
- the fuel consumption is down
- a stop/start that has quietly given up
- diesel in the cabin, or smoke on the way up through the box
That is not evidence alone. It is a fair assumption the filter is blocked once the light is showing too.
Choked diesel particulate filters around Dunsa, and the why
For a DPF, the poorest driving is the kind you find across a rural hamlet such as Dunsa. Run through a normal week: Pilsley CofE Primary School and home, Dunsa Lane at a halt before the hour, a quick trip to Co-op Food, a dash to Grindleford. None of it there lasts long enough or gets hot enough to finish a regeneration. Instead of clearing, the soot collects.
Except when you have a regular cause to drive out to the M1, under 15 miles from Dunsa, or out to Sheffield under 15 miles away, weeks slip past without a sustained run. Geography is no help.
Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration
It is self-protection: that is all limp mode means. Output is capped, the revs will not climb, and the regeneration the filter wants can not run — which is the real difficulty, because a long drive works by setting off that regeneration.
Running it up the motorway is the common advice, and it works right up to a limit. Once the car is in limp mode you are past that line, and the filter requires cleaning rather than more driving.
Where the vehicle stands is where the DPF is cleaned round Dunsa
Most drivers do not expect this part: the filter stays put. The job happens with the DPF still fixed to the vehicle — on your driveway, in a work car park, wherever the motor can wait for a couple of hours.
The ECU is read first, showing soot load by percentage and by actual weight, along with a review of sensor readings, glow plugs and connected parts, so nothing is touched while another fault is still possible.
A cleaning solution after that goes in through the access port on that car, expanding inside the filter to loosen soot and ash a regeneration on its own will never move. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to take doing twice.
Then a regeneration, to burn off what the clean has freed. Stay with the vehicle and it becomes a monitored drive out of Dunsa. Drop it and the regeneration is done statically, with running data checked once it is done.
Both sets of figures come through by email, so the figures from either end are recorded. The second scan is what verifies the change, clears the light and notes whatever is still open.
The failures a DPF clean cannot answer
A filter clogged with soot and ash is the one thing a clean answers. It will not touch:
- a temperature or pressure sensor showing a restriction that is not there
- EGR valves that hang open
- the AdBlue system failing
- injectors or glow plugs that stop a regeneration completing at all
- a turbo putting oil through the filter
That is what the first scan is for. When it is found to be one of those, you are let know before any work starts rather than after you have paid for it.
Two things more worth knowing. Having the filter cut out is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF fails its MOT and driving it is an offence. And cleaning is sometimes looked up as DPF renewal: nothing is swapped, your own filter is treated in place and returned into use.
The cost of DPF cleaning across Dunsa
Each visit takes a call-out charge — getting to you, setting up the booking, running the scan and offering the advice. The clean itself opens from £299.
No flat rate would be straight, so the figure is fixed over the phone once we are told the vehicle and what the filter is going to need. The car moves it, and so does the address — Dunsa, Pilsley, or a spot further out in the DE postcode area.
Where the diagnostic says cleaning will not work, you are not charged for a clean. What nonetheless stands is the call-out charge, since the visit happened, the diagnostic was carried out and the advice was given.
Aftercare is included by a 30-day warranty: should the light return within it, an engineer returns to Dunsa.
Im very impressed with the service provided by Zoltan of DPF fixers. He was very considerate, reassuring, and helpful. I will definitely be recommending this company to anyone who is in need of the service. Thank you again for the assistance.
Thanks Kieran for a prompt and efficient service, also saved me £300 on what the garage were going to charge me.
Excellent service, good lad and very helpful and very pleasant too. Very good rates, in fact a lot cheaper than taking it locally and these come out to you.
Vehicles we clean, and where we travel around Dunsa
Cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery, agricultural vehicles — the one call-out service across all of them, and on all of them the filter is treated on the vehicle rather than carried anywhere.
Engineers are along Dunsa Lane most weeks, so Dunsa is rarely a journey of its own, and the same run picks up Pilsley, Baslow and the spots out past Edensor. Coverage runs UK-wide, so farther out around Derbyshire is nonetheless worth a phone call, and what picks between today and tomorrow is the calendar rather than the distance.

Questions Dunsa drivers ask about DPF cleaning
- Will a long drive shift it?
- It might, provided you catch it in time and limp mode has not set in. Ten minutes to Co-op Food and back will not be enough; motorway speed, sustained for some time, will.
- Broadly how long does it last?
- It is typically around 2 hours. A severely clogged filter can need a second clean, which extends that.
- What does it cost across Dunsa?
- It opens from £299, plus the call-out charge taking in the visit, the scan and the advice. Settling it is done by phone, since what you run and where you live both move the number.
- Do I have to be there?
- Somewhere for the vehicle to stand, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. If you would rather come along, the regeneration can be done as a supervised drive instead.
- When can someone come to Dunsa?
- You are looking at often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is now in the diary. Call 0303 330 1830 and we will say to you what is free across the DE area.
- Does the filter come away from the motor?
- Done where it stands, on this service, so no. That work — a filter off, a filter back on — is not work we do.
- And if the light comes back?
- The 30-day warranty takes in aftercare, including an engineer returning to Dunsa.
