Signs the motor has been sending you
Symptoms have usually been growing for weeks before the light so much as arrives. Belated news, in other words:
- tailing off on power, above all uphill
- you notice the revs fall short of where they once went
- the fuel use is worse
- quietly, the stop/start bows out
- diesel in the car, or smoke on the way up through the gearbox
Any one of those, taken singly, is not proof. Alongside the light beside them, the filter is a fair guess.
