Mobile DPF Cleaning across Drumbeg, Highland

Cleaning the DPF takes place at the motor, not at a body shop. A technician turns up at your door over in Drumbeg, clears the diesel particulate filter while it is fitted to the vehicle, performs a DPF regeneration, and you keep the filter you started with.

The visit runs typically around 2 hours, the clean starts from £299, and the figure is agreed on the phone before anyone sets off.

If the light is already on and the car is low on power, this page is yours. That is how most people get to us.

DPF light on? What happens next

The unit is not automatically what is wrong, and that goes first. A check happens before all treatment, because that same dashboard light has plenty of likely faults behind it.

How the motor is run in the meantime matters too.

  • Amber light, vehicle even now driving normally — a long constant run can still clear it alone. Costs zero, and worth a try before you ring anything.
  • Once the vehicle is in limp mode, motoring will not shift it. The window has closed.
  • A diesel smell in there, or black smoke under hard acceleration, is the moment to stop booking long drives and call.

Before the light, what the car was warning you

Symptoms have normally been mounting for a while before the light so much as arrives. Late news, in other words:

  • power tailing off, especially pulling uphill
  • an engine whose revs will not pull as before
  • the fuel use is worse
  • a stop/start that has quietly bowed out
  • the interior smelling of diesel, or smoke when you press on

Alone, none of that is proof. It is a fair assumption the filter is full once the light is showing too.

The reason diesel particulate filters clog round Drumbeg

Being a coastal village, Drumbeg generates precisely the motoring a DPF manages the poorest. A regeneration wants long enough and heat, and has none: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on Poldarrach Road at half eight, not on a few minutes to Lochinver Stores, and not on the run to the nearest station. The unburnt soot banks up rather than burning off.

Neither is a long way from Drumbeg: over 50 miles to the M90, over 50 miles to Inverness. Neither is on the way to anywhere most weeks, though, so the drive that would scour a filter simply never happens.

Why limp mode stops a DPF regeneration

The motor is looking after itself, which is what limp mode amounts to. Power is limited, the revs will not pull, and the regeneration the filter wants can no longer run — which is the real difficulty, because a proper drive works by setting off that regeneration.

So the standard advice to run it up the motorway is sound advice, up until the day it is not. The filter wants treatment rather than driving once the motor has gone into limp mode.

DPF cleaning for a blocked filter in Drumbeg, Highland

Mobile DPF cleaning where the motor stands round Drumbeg

Nothing is taken from the vehicle. That surprises people. The DPF remains fitted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, wherever it can stand for a couple of hours.

First a check. Running ECU data, the soot load as a percentage and as a figure, the sensors, the glow plugs, the connected parts — all of it taken before any of it is cleaned.

Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never budge are freed after that, by a cleaning solution put through the access point on that car, which opens out inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is clogged enough to take doing twice.

A regeneration is next, clearing what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Drumbeg if you are present, or a static regeneration where the motor stands, with the real-time data read once done.

Then a second diagnostic, confirming the change, resetting the warning light and noting anything still outstanding. Both read-outs are sent over, so the before and after figures are recorded.

What a DPF clean will not cure

One thing is what cleaning fixes — a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does little for:

  • sensors, pressure or temperature, reporting a blockage that is not real
  • a jammed EGR valve
  • the AdBlue system playing up
  • a regeneration that never starts, because of glow plugs or injectors
  • turbo trouble, with oil getting into the filter

The first scan is there for exactly that. You are warned before any work begins, not after you have handed over, should it turns out to be one of those.

Hollowing the filter out is not a remedy: without a working DPF a vehicle will fail its MOT, and driving it is illegal. DPF renewal is the phrase people look up, though nothing is exchanged — your existing filter is cleaned in place and put back into use. Two more worth bearing in mind.

DPF cleaning prices around Drumbeg

The clean opens from £299. A call-out charge covers every visit, and pays for the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that follows.

Once we are told what you own, and roughly what the filter will want, the figure gets settled over phone. A single price for all would not be honest. What you run and where you are both change it: Drumbeg itself, out at Culkein Drumbeg, or farther out in the IV postcode area.

If the scan counts a clean out, there is no charge to pay for it. The call-out charge still holds, because the visit, the diagnostic and the advice have been done.

If the light returns inside that period, an engineer heads back out to Drumbeg — the clean comes with a 30-day warranty taking in aftercare.

Made a phone call and next day dpf fixer was at my home to work on the car, fast efficient and great service.

Booked late Wednesday and the job done on the Friday. Igor the technical was brilliant. He explained how the cleaning work and gave aftercare guidance too. Slight downside is the cost at £420 a pop.

Nic came out and fixed my dpf and emissions light, did a fantastic job my car is now running full speed again after going into limp mode.

Where we reach around Drumbeg, and what we clean

The one call-out service takes in cars and estates, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs, construction and plant machinery and agricultural vehicles, and on every one the filter is treated where it sits rather than carried anywhere.

Our engineers are along Poldarrach Road week in week out, so Drumbeg is hardly ever a detour, and the same run takes in Culkein Drumbeg, Clashnessie and the places out past Lochinver. It is the schedule, not the distance, that decides whether it is one day or the next, and coverage runs UK-wide — so call still from further out across Highland.

Things Drumbeg drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Can I just take it for a long drive?
Sometimes, if you spot it early and the vehicle has not dropped into limp mode. Ten minutes to Lochinver Stores and back will not manage it; motorway speed, sustained for a while, will.
The visit lasts how long?
That is typically around 2 hours, though a heavily loaded filter can need cleaning twice, which runs on.
What does it cost around Drumbeg?
Treatment starts from £299, and the call-out charge on top takes in the visit, the diagnostic and the advice. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why quoting happens by phone.
Do I have to be present?
A spot for the car to wait, for a couple of hours, is all that is needed. Not you. The regeneration can be carried out as a supervised drive if you would sooner be there.
How soon can someone come to Drumbeg?
Depending on the schedule, often same-day or next-day is normal. Ring 0303 330 1830 and you will know what is free across the IV area.
Will the filter be lifted off?
On the on-site service, no: the filter is cleaned in place. Lifting a filter off or bolting one back on come to anything work we do either way.
What if the light returns?
An engineer travels back out to Drumbeg — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
