Mobile DPF Cleaner

Drefach, Carmarthenshire: Mobile DPF Cleaning

The vehicle sits in place — on-site DPF cleaning comes to it. Your car isn't taken away and the filter will not leave it. A technician arrives at your address across Drefach, treats the diesel particulate filter fitted to the vehicle and carries out a DPF regeneration.

You'll be given a number by phone before anyone goes, the clean beginning from £299, and the visit taking typically around 2 hours.

If the light is on already and the car is down on power, this page is the right one. That is how most owners end up here.

What to do when the DPF light shows

It may not be the filter at all. That is the first thing. That light can arise from plenty of faults, not only one, so the visit begins with a check and not with a clean.

How the vehicle is run in the meantime matters too.

  • Amber light, car even now driving fine — a long constant run can still clear it by itself. Costs nothing, and worth trying before you ring anything.
  • That window has closed once the car has fallen into limp mode. Motoring will not help now.
  • Diesel smell in the car, or black smoke under acceleration — stop arranging long drives and get it checked.

Signs the car has been giving you

Symptoms have normally been growing for a while before the light even arrives. Belated news, in other words:

  • tailing off on power, particularly uphill
  • you notice the revs fall short of where they once went
  • worse fuel consumption
  • stop/start quietly packing in
  • smoke under hard acceleration, or a diesel smell in there

By itself, none of that is conclusive. With the light, it is a fair assumption the filter is full.

The cause diesel particulate filters clog round Drefach

Drefach is a rural hamlet, and the motoring that comes with one is the least kind sort for a DPF. A regeneration takes time and heat, and gets not much: not on the school run to the local primary school, not on Drefach Road at half past eight, not on five minutes to Co-op Food, and not on the run to Whitland. Unburnt soot that should burn off collects instead.

Neither is far from Drefach: under 25 miles to the M4, under 50 miles to Swansea. Neither is on the way to anything most weeks, though, so the journey that would empty a filter simply never gets made.

The point a DPF regeneration can no longer happen

Limp mode is the car looking after itself. A sustained drive works by setting off a regeneration, and that is precisely what limp mode rules out: power limited, revs held down, no regeneration available.

The common advice — run it up the motorway — is sensible, right until it is not. The filter wants cleaning rather than more driving once the motor has slipped into limp mode.

Cleaning a blocked diesel particulate filter in Drefach, Carmarthenshire

DPF cleaning at the vehicle across Drefach

Nothing leaves the motor. That surprises people. The DPF sits fitted where it is and the work goes on around it, on a forecourt, in a works car park, any place it can sit for a couple of hours.

First a scan. Real-time ECU data, the soot load as a percent and as a weight, the sensors, the glow plugs, the related hardware — all of it read before anything is cleaned.

Soot and ash that a regeneration alone will never budge are freed second, by a cleaning solution put through the access port on that vehicle, which opens out inside the filter. Sometimes a filter is blocked enough to need doing twice.

A regeneration follows, burning off what the clean has loosened. That is a monitored drive out of Drefach if you are along, or a static regeneration where the motor stands, with the real-time data read afterwards.

A second diagnostic confirms the change, resets the warning light and lists anything still showing. Both reports are emailed over, so you have the before and after figures recorded.

Where a clean is not the answer

A clean cures one thing: a filter clogged with soot and ash. It does nothing for:

  • sensors, pressure, flagging a block that is not real
  • a jammed EGR valve
  • a fault in the AdBlue system
  • failed glow plugs or injectors, so never a regeneration ever runs
  • oil working through the filter from a failing turbo

That is what the first check is for. Turning out to be one of them means learning it before any work begins, not after settling up a penny.

Two things more worth noting. Getting the filter hollowed out is not a fix — a vehicle without a serviceable DPF will fail its MOT and driving it is against the law. And cleaning is sometimes searched for as DPF renewal: nothing is exchanged, your existing filter is treated in place and sent back into use.

The price for DPF cleaning across Drefach

The treatment opens from £299. A call-out charge applies to every visit, and takes in the call-out itself, the booking, the scan and the advice that follows.

Naming a flat rate would not be truthful. We fix it over phone, once the motor and its expected needs are established. What you own and where you are both change it: Drefach itself, across at Felin-pandy, or otherwise out in the SA postcode area.

Cleaning that will not work is not treatment you pay for, and the check is what says so. You even so pay that charge: someone came out, did the check and passed on you the advice.

The work includes a 30-day warranty covering aftercare, including an engineer travelling back out to Drefach if the light comes back inside that window.

I had Kieran unblock my DPF today, can't fault him. He called me before he arrived to let me know he was on his way, explained everything to me before and after!

Ollie W.

Igor, was extremely helpful, carried out a diagnostic test and found that my DPF was cracked and needs replacing, so no point in carrying out a clean. Explained everything and gave advice. really helpful service.

What we clean, and how far we travel around Drefach

The filter is cleaned where it sits on all of them: private cars, panel vans and light commercials, HGVs and lorries, construction and plant machinery, farm vehicles. Nothing is taken anywhere.

Most weeks there is usually someone on Drefach Road, so Drefach rarely means a special trip, and Felin-pandy, The Clos and the spots past Meidrim are on the way. It is the schedule, not the distance, that decides whether it is this day or the next, and coverage extends UK-wide — so ring even from further out around Carmarthenshire.

Questions Drefach drivers ask about DPF cleaning

Is a long drive enough on its own?
It can, provided you catch it early enough and limp mode has not begun. Fifteen minutes to Co-op Food and back will not manage it; motorway speed, held for some time, will.
How long does the visit take?
Bank on typically around 2 hours, with a second clean lengthening that where the filter is severely blocked.
How much does it run to across Drefach?
The call-out charge pays for the visit, the scan and the advice; treatment itself starts from £299. Both the vehicle and where you are move it, which is why quoting is done by phone.
Is it essential for me to be there?
The motor wants a place for two hours or so. You need not be in it. If you would prefer to come along, the regeneration can be done as a monitored drive instead.
Getting to Drefach — how soon?
You are in for often same-day or next-day, though it depends what is currently in the schedule. Phone 0303 330 1830 what is open across the SA area.
Does the filter come away from the motor?
Not on the call-out service — it is treated where it stands. And neither does taking a filter off nor bolting one back on is work we do.
And if the light returns?
An engineer travels back out to Drefach — the 30-day warranty takes in aftercare.
